About

Anderson .Paak in Concert

Presenting the artist in a top hat and plaid boxer shorts as he plays piano in the surf amid a smattering of objects like an old-school record player, the surreal cover image for Anderson .Paak's breakthrough album perfectly suited its wildly inventive contents. Full of witty, unpredictable songs and styles that ranged from ‘60s soul to ‘90s hip-hop to vanguard R&B, ‘Malibu' became one of 2016's most acclaimed albums, establishing its creator as a maverick whose imagination can seem virtually limitless. Along with a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album, the album earned Anderson .Paak another Grammy nod for Best New Artist along with similar acknowledgements at the Soul Train Music Awards and the BET Hip Hop Awards.

All that marked a long journey from Anderson .Paak's first foray into music, which was playing drums in church growing up in Oxnard, California. After coming to Los Angeles, he sought to establish himself as a session musician while creating his own sounds under the moniker Breezy Lovejoy. His fortunes rose when he began working for Shafiq Husayn of Sa-Ra, the revered L.A. hip-hop duo and production team. His new confidence inspired him to drop his former handle in favor of Anderson .Paak, a stylized version of his real name. The buzz got louder with the release of his wildly diverse debut, ‘Venice' (2014), and his contributions to albums by Dr. Dre and The Game. And while he fully proved his capabilities with ‘Malibu,' it was ‘Yes Lawd!' (2016) by NxWorries – his duo with producer Knxwledge – as well as shows with his band The Free Nationals that confirmed he's just as compelling with close collaborators on hand as when he's pursuing his singular vision.

His third album and first since signing to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, ‘Oxnard' sees Anderson .Paak introduce yet more colors in his palette, beginning with Technicolor textures, carnivalesque soundscape, and his own exuberant flow in "Bubblin'," the album's first single. And with his return to stages with The Free Nationals, Anderson .Paak is ready to make good on his reputation as one of the exciting new talents in hip-hop and R&B.

    by Lindseyspinz on 1/4/24

Experienced the one and only Anderson.Paak aka DJ Pee Wee at Wild Horse Saloon in Nashville TN Labor Day weekend 2023. This performance spoke to my soul! Words can’t even describe how much I needed this set! 10/10

    Misrepresented rip off

by TK on 9/5/23Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

This show was promoted as Anderson Paak, but in reality it was a DJ set by his alter ego “DJ PeeWee.” I’ve reached out to the venue, as well as ticket sites about how this show and the tickets were a rip off, and nobody seems to be able to do anything. The ticket people didn’t even scan my ticket when I got to the show. Huge joke.

DJ pee wee was great but not what I paid for

by Sher on 9/5/23Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Sat in the VIP section, expecting a great show from Anderson Paak. Not sure why he performed as “DJ Pee Wee” the whole night. He only sung 2 songs of his own and the rest of the night were throw backs hits from the 2000s hip hop era. I’m disappointed as a huge fan of his music.

Not what we expected, always verify

by Scooter on 9/5/23Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

The event was $70 G.A. Only, which is what a Concert show is worth. This event was a DJ set by Anderson Paak promoting Race Horses. He only performed 2 songs. Half the people there were expecting a concert show not a DJ set, but chose to stay because we paid concert prices for a 2 hour DJ set. This event wasn’t even marketed as DJ set either on his site or on Ticketmaster, it just felt misleading overall. For future reference always look into his shows to make sure you get what you want wether it’s him singing or DJ-ing.

    BAIT AND SWITCH!!!

by Tony on 9/5/23Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

All of your advertising (even this review) showed Anderson .Paak, and what I assumed, would be a "concert"here in Nashville. Nowhere in the ads was this DJ Pee Wee mentioned. I am not into the Club DJ scene and me, my wife and my friends were highly disappointed in this BAIT AND SWITCH. I also paid for something called "ParkWhiz"that came with NO details and I wasted that money because I had to pay again to park in a garage. No one at the venue or the surrounding parking garages knew anything about "ParkWhiz"(another $27.00 wasted). This was a terrible holiday weekend, date night event with my wife that could have been prevented by providing COMPLETE AND ACCURATE information. I know this will fall on deaf ears and nothing will be done, but I am not happy. #truthinadvertising

It wasn’t Anderson .Paak like advertised

    by Hm222 on 9/5/23Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Fun enough party for a DJ event but when I bought tickets I thought I was buying tickets to see Anderson .Paak not DJ Pee Wee. I wish all of the ticket sites listed the event as a “DJ Pee Wee” event rather than using his name. Honestly I wouldn’t have gone if I’d known he wasn’t performing.

One of the best modern drummers

    by J. S. on 6/16/23

Fantastic musicianship on all fronts. From the charisma and his drumming skills, he’s a full package. Saw him in DC last year at SITW.
