    Great Show

by Bunnie on 10/24/23Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

Oliver was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. It was very entertaining. The cast was excellent, as were the sets and costumes. There were many children in the audience, and I don't think it was appropriate for young children under the age of 12.

    Disappointed

by LMGPHOTO48 on 10/24/23Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

“Oliver” was probably the first musical I ever saw and it’s always been a favorite. I’ve seen it performed on stage several times as well as the movie version. I know there can be different interpretations of plays but this one really fell short for me. The major characters - with the exception of the fabulous Nancy - were flat and one dimensional. Fagin is a conman, a rogue - and he was played like a kindly kindergarden teacher trying to teach his young charges a lesson. Bill Sykes is a powerful, dynamic bad guy - not an undertaker who slinks in, dressed all in black, and announces his wicked presence with a few knocks of his cane. And even Oliver, with his angelic voice, stays flat; you see little development, little change in his character, his posture, his voice, his demeanor. Only Nancy was a 3 dimensional character, engaging our empathy, understanding and delight and despair. I don’t think the acting was at fault but the directing definitely missed the mark. This production was a major disappointment.

Good show but not what I was hoping for.

by Clynmar on 10/22/23Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

The show overall was good. The characters that stood out were the “Artful Dodger” & the role of “Nancy”. The boys ensemble were very entertaining but most all other characters, my family and I could not understand most of what they were saying or singing as the accents were a bit overkill. Some of the other females cast were a bit surprising (they seemed as if it were more of a rehearsal for them) as we’ve seen more experienced actors at other 5 star events. Again, the show was good. But we just expected a bit more.

    Oliver At Thousand Oaks

by Movie/ TheatreFan on 10/22/23Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

The stage play of Oliver (October 2023) at the Thousand Oaks Performing Arts Plaza was excellent. The cast, orchestra, and stage crew did an outstanding job adapting the classic story with terrific direction.

Really happy that I went to see it!

by Ken on 10/22/23Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

Loved it. Have seen the musical several times and the film even more. Excellent cast, especially Nancy. Pit orchestra particularly strong. Professional staging. One if the best 5 star presentations.

    Wonderful! Really great cast!

by Kimw on 10/20/23Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

I recently went to see Oliver the Musical in Thousand Oaks. It was excellent. I especially loved the Kayden Alexander Koshelev who played oliver. he was so sweet, just like Oliver in the book and Monika Pena who plays Nancy, Wow! She can really sing. Then theres Dodger (ALkaio Thiele). He really brought the part of Dodger to Life. All I can Say is I enjoyed the play so much that if my schedule would premit I would pay to go see it again.

    Love Musicals!

by Penny on 10/19/23Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

My husband and I decided to celebrate our 50th anniversary by attending the play, Oliver. We loved the movie version, and the play did not disappoint! Great actors, voices, scenery, and, of course, songs! The young man who played Oliver, Kayden, was excellent! We enjoyed it very much! It’s always fun to see a live show!
