    This Piece is the Sheep!

by DeBrinc on 2/11/18Will Rogers State Historic Park - Pacific Palisades

What a marvelous way to spend an afternoon: on a bale of hay, in the drowsing sun, watching a flock of 30 sheep, 3 expert dogs, their mistress and 4 dancer/actors on a grassy stage. With no music and little dialogue, the viewer is left to decode and decipher, connect and disconnect, to ponder and pore over this generous, lovely poem of an event.

    What was that?

by BeverlyJames on 2/7/18Will Rogers State Historic Park - Pacific Palisades

Good stuff: it was a beautiful day, sitting on hay bales at Will Rogers State Park. Watching the dogs quietly work with the sheep. Watching the handler work with the dogs, using brief voice commands and a soft high-pitched whistle. Amazing! Beautiful! Also a good thing: the show was short, a little over an hour. The human performers represented a family, I think. The performance was simple, yet undecipherable. I just didn’t get it. I felt like there should have been more to it, more to take home and think about. Maybe I expected too much. But I feel like I went without expectations.

Doggie Hamlet is beautiful and mysterious

by Anonymous on 2/6/18Will Rogers State Historic Park - Pacific Palisades

I am still haunted by the whistles and commands of the Shepard, the unbelievable focus of the herding dogs, and the sadness and humor of the actors/dancers surrounded by the sheep in motion.

    Dog show

by Anonymous on 2/6/18Will Rogers State Historic Park - Pacific Palisades

I loved watching the dogs work with the sheep. They were fascinating. The “actors” were completely unnecessary. At times it seemed as if some of the people actors were having a mental break. The weather was good so it was enjoyable watching the dogs.
