    disappointing, pretentious

by SeenMuchDance on 4/12/16Ralph Freud Playhouse - Los Angeles

1/3 beautiful, 1/3 silly and pretentious, 1/3 unfocused and non-resonant. It reminded of bad copy of Pina Bausch fused with a bad copy of Julie Taymor's early work. Much less than the sum of its parts. I was quite bored. The two men next to me kept snickering and then left in the middle. However, it should be noted that many people did appear to like it and hooted and hollered during the very milked 3 encore bows.

More puppetry-- less everything else :/

by MisterDescartes on 4/12/16Ralph Freud Playhouse - Los Angeles

Though I adored the beautiful and hypnotic puppetry, it was actually a very small part of the show, which suffered from an overabundance of unremarkable interpretive dance, repetitive music and excruciatingly overlong mime "skits" that failed to hold my interest or imagination. People dancing around in animal masks CAN be compelling, but this was not, and it got even worse when they removed the masks and started playing with their iPads on stage. I understand they were trying to make a comment on technology distancing us from the environment, but the presentation was rather flat. A disappointing production with moments of sheer grace.

    Phantom Limb is Real

by Mirii on 4/11/16Ralph Freud Playhouse - Los Angeles

Deeply moving --a suggestion of classic Fairy Tale, a demonstration of true Imagination, a reminder of why Theater and Dance was revered by the ancient Greeks.
