Meh to grr
by National Theatregoer on 3/17/24The National Theatre - WashingtonIt’s a great show, executed poorly. Most annoying, I was seated in the right orchestra, three seats in from the aisle about 9 rows back. The stage right off stage area was poorly draped for most of the show, so we all watched the stagehands and off-stage stuff for a good part of the show! Really took us out of the experience. Felt very high school production. Embarrassing for the National Theatre. The choreography was mediocre. The casting director made odd choices. For example the frightening warlord was played by a skinny guy, not at all convincing. Many of the players seemed to phone it in. The leads were invested, but the rest of the cast seemed like they were there for a paycheck. Voices were very good, if overmiked. I guess this is what you get with a touring company.
