'Aladdin' in Theater
Live theatrical works of Disney classics almost unanimously translate well to the big stage, and Susana Moscatel, Erick Merino and Federico González Compeán's adaptation of Disney Theatrical Productions' Aladdin is no exception. Originally debuting on Broadway in New York City in 2014, Aladdin is now being featured half a dozen times a week into the summer at Telcel Theater in Mexico City, Mexico. Produced and presented by the event platform OCESA, Aladdin has received local praise for adding a local, Mexican flare to the original production without losing the magic of Disney's narrative. Rodney Ingram and Irma Flores star as Aladdin and Jasmine, respectively, with Juan Pablo Martinez, known for his role as Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar, playing the charismatic role of Genie (made famous by Robin Williams). Local critics have also praised the set design made by Bob Crowley, and costume work designed by Gregg Barnes, Meredith Scott and Geneviève Petitpierre.
The show surpassed expectations. The costumes and the music were amazing. The dancers were really exciting and I was glad to go to the show. Well worth every penny!
