About

MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

    Mannheim Steamroller

by CAW on 1/13/24San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

Was great! My six year old grand daughter sat still the entire time and was mesmerized! She has ADHD and did not wiggle the whole time, she enchanted thru the whole concert. I have been a fan of this group from the start.

    Venue Ruined Experience

by BB on 1/7/24Orleans Arena - Las Vegas

Even though I like the Mannheim Steamroller music, the Orleans Arena ruined the experience. This started even before the show. They were so disorganized getting people into the venue. We literally had to get an a line that stretched all the way into the casino. Hundreds of feet long. Then, when we were seated on the main floor right in front of the stage, the folding chairs are right on top of each other. I literally had the person next to me, sitting partially in my lap. As far as the show itself, it was average. One thing I did not appreciate, was watching videos of people singing to the music. If I wanted to watch a video, I would’ve put in a DVD at home. Have a live singer or don’t include it at all.

Wonderful Way to Celebrate the Holidays!

by Family Gal on 1/5/24Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

Decades ago, my father introduced Mannheim Steamroller to my mom, sisters and myself, and every year since then I've played it through the holidays. It was only fitting, that we celebrated Christmas and the memory of my dad, by going to see this concert when it came close to home. The music was absolutely wonderful and the setting at Shea's Performing Arts Center in Buffalo was just beautiful! It was all we had hoped for and more! Thank you for making our holidays even more meaningful this year!

    Fantastic Flair!.

by JL on 1/3/24Findlay Toyota Center - Prescott Valley

I’ve never heard Christmas music performed in this manner before. I believe this was one of the first bands to incorporate visual and lighting effects to expand the experience of the music. The music was memorable, as well as deeply moving. Some of the pieces brought me to tears. I will definitely return to see this group at Christmas time again. my only consideration is that the audience be informed ahead of time, that the Hallelujah Chorus was first performed for the king. The king was so moved by the music that he stood up on his boat on the lake while watching the orchestra perform on land, of course, everyone stands when the king stands. In this tradition, when the hallelujah chorus is played the audience is supposed to stand up. This fact needs to be impressed upon our society today, because it has lost that respect, or it is a matter of, not knowing. I would prefer to choose the latter. Now that you’ve been informed, stand up.

    A Night After Christmas

by Sandy on 1/3/24ASU Gammage - Tempe

Seven of our family attended the concert and enjoyed it. My husband didn't recognize his favorite Christmas hymn "Oh Holy Night,"but I thought it was a beautiful rendition. Not so great, the "old"videos showed during the performances. Manheim could use some updating of their technology.(Expensive I'm sure, but what the audience expects these present days. We are spoiled with available technology in our homes. Sharp and clear.) All in all, we are glad we went. Most likely none of us will be returning to Manheim productions in the future. Do love Grady Gammage Auditorium!!!

A sonicly awesome cattle car experience...

by Brent on 1/3/24Findlay Toyota Center - Prescott Valley

I have loved Mannheim Steamroller since Chip Davis' first album 50 years ago! Finally got to experience this amazing Christmas show in person! I would rate the show a SIX as far as musicality is concerned, however, I was sorely disappointed at the miserable seats that we were shoe-horned into on the floor of the Findlay Toyota Center! If I would have known ahead of time that I was going to be jammed into a Southwest Airlines-sized seat for nearly 3 hours I would have never attended this show. For the amount of money spent on floor seating, I would have expected to have a little elbow room in my seat! My seating rating would be -1 on a scale of 1-5. I will sit in the "cheap seats"from now on.
