So You Think You Can Dance Live! on Tour

As the name implies, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour is an extension of the long-running Fox TV series. Each year, top contestants from the show's most recent season go on the road and perform in front of live audiences. At these gigs, ‘SYTYCD' fans can expect the usual mix of inventive, high-quality choreography and solo and group spotlights. The format of the tour allows dancers to stretch out physically and emotionally, and to show off their unique personalities, which makes the night a resonant one. For the 2018 tour, the Top 10 finalists from Season 15 — including winner Hannahlei Cabanilla, a contemporary dance enthusiast from Orange County, California, and season runner-up Jensen Arnold — are hitting the road to show off their best moves, under the choreographic guidance of the Emmy-winning Mandy Moore.

About So You Think You Can Dance Live! Tour

Just as ‘American Idol' and ‘The Voice' have helped aspiring musicians launch a career, the judged competition ‘So You Think You Can Dance' has done the same for dancers. Contestants from the show, which premiered in 2005, have gone on to become professional actors and actresses, choreographers, and backup dancers for pop stars. ‘SYTYCD' itself has also become known for its innovative dance routines to popular music, and is a perennial Primetime Emmy winner, particularly in the Outstanding Choreography category.

The show's sterling track record is a testament to the stunning pool of talent on display during each season. ‘SYTYCD' doubles as a spotlight showcase for promising dancers specializing in various styles (hip-hop, jazz, contemporary), who then show off their best moves via group, pair, and individual dance performances. Each week, judges whittle down the field of competitors, before crowning one person the winner. After the season ends, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour gives top contestants a chance to strut their stuff in real life, up close and personal in front of the show's many, many fans.

    Birthday Bash

by Sarah C on 2/14/20Coca-Cola Roxy - Atlanta

My sister’s and I took our mother for her 79th birthday. We are all huge fans. We even had a moment with Cyrus in the parking lot following the show. It was a wonderful night!

    Lighting ruined show

by T. on 12/10/19Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

The dancing was amazing despite the terrible lighting. The lighting detracted from the dancing. It was busy, blinding to audience members, and distracting. The lighting did not highlight the dancers. Very disappointing.

    Great Show!

by LoneWolf on 12/9/19Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

This is the third time we have been to see the live "So You Think You Can Dance" tour and this venue was much better than the last two times. We had great seats, sound system was very good, and the show itself was as awesome as ever. They usually hit Reno every other year and we buy our tickets they first day they are available. Take the family to this one!

AMAZING athleticism, but mostly Hip hop & break dance moves

by Lilliana on 12/9/19Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

I REALLY thought that this was going to be much different...maybe some ballroom dance moves and some modern dance and instead it was mostly all hip hop and Break dance moves, which while very admirably athletic, was NOT pleasing to someone like me who LOVES ballroom dance and ballroom music...The younger people in the audience seemed to love the performance... AND It would have been more tolerable for me had the acoustics been fixed...SO much bass and too loud...no respite...My ears hurt when we left... Not sure if it is the acoustics in the show room or just the choice of the music from the choreographer... There was so much obvious talent, that it would have been so much more fun for people like me if it had had more tango, rhumba, waltz steps, cha cha, merengue... there were a few dances that were a bit like that ....one to the old song " Sixteen Tons"... but it was a disappointment for me and our party...for sure ....sorry!! all of us over 60 y/o

The dancing was amazing, the spot lights were distracting.

by Dawn on 12/9/19Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

Loved the dancing and the hosts were entertaining. The spot lights pointed into the audience were distracting and annoying making it even more difficult to see the dancers from my seat in MC row J (Reno). There were 2 jumbo trons but they were not used during the performance which would have really helped see the dancers onstage.

Good but Not my Favorite SYTYCD Live Show

by JDB 1984 on 12/7/19Balboa Theatre - San Diego

I have been to the last 10 SYTYCD tours and I have enjoyed every one of them. The dancers this year were were amazing, especially Madison, Mariah, Ezra and Bailey! I would have liked to have seen more routines from the season but maybe there were less routines because Gino, one of my favorites, was injured and unable to perform. (Get well soon, Gino!) It was also great to see Lauren and Cyrus, the hosts dance on stage again! My only complaint is the banter between the hosts which was just plain awful. (Just as bad as the year the hosts continually joked about Phillip and Jeanine's Russian dance.) Instead of having Lauren and Cyrus say ridiculously corny lines, how about fill the time with information about each of the dancers or interesting facts about dance? The show would be 5 stars if not for the silly script Lauren and Cyrus had to read.

    Fantastic show!

by Glo on 12/6/19Balboa Theatre - San Diego

I loved watching Bailey and Mariah dance together again. Seeing them live was extra special. It was so nice to see Cyrus hosting! Madison was another personal fave but I loved the entire cast. Had a big grin on my face as I was leaving the theater.

    Amazing!

by Vivian G on 12/5/19Balboa Theatre - San Diego

What an excellent performance by all the dancers! They really worked so hard and were flawless. I liked the flow of the show, having separate sections of each dance style allowed for a smooth and well choreographed (no pun intended) show. And it provided something for everyone. The Balboa Theater was also an inspired choice for hosting SYTYCD. It's an intimate space with great seating and acoustics. I liked it much better than the Civic for this type of performance. Really enjoyed the entire show!!

    Great Show/Terrible Venue

by janicek on 12/5/19Balboa Theatre - San Diego

I love SYTYCD and was so looking forward to this event. The Balboa Theater is definitely one of the worst venues this show could have been performed on. There is a one foot high apparatus of stage machinery going across the front of the stage. How are we supposed to watch the beautiful feet of these fantastic dancers unless they are up in the air? I was so disappointed with this view. If this show is at this theater again, I will not go see it there.

    Okay but not great

by M on 12/5/19Balboa Theatre - San Diego

First off I will state my experience was not because of the performers, production, or co hosts. The actual event was great. Super talented people on that stage. Loved watching the pieces live and seeing how much stronger each dancer has become. My issue with the event is that a dance event like this requires a level of energy from the crowd. Unfortunately, the crowd was lethargic at best. My fiancee and I cheered and were audible during the hip hop sections but seeing how we are in San Diego, a lot of the technical aspects of the pieces were not appreciated because San Diego is not a hip hop town. The dancers brought it... san diego failed to respond. So i implore those who want to see this show, please bring some level of excitement. This is a dancing showcase, not a cirque du soliel. You can cheer... its expected. So if your town is a conservative town... youll have a better time watching this on youtube
