About

Elf: The Musical On Tour

Since its release in 2003, Elf has risen to the rank of a modern Christmas-movie classic. The film tells the story of Buddy, a North Pole toy-maker who slowly comes to the realization that he's not like the other elves (his 6'3" height being but the first tip-off). Soon he sets off to New York City in search of his real father, leaving a trail of trashed-up department stores, snowball-fight victims, and syrup-soaked spaghetti in his wake. Will Ferrell's hilarious yet heartfelt portrayal of Buddy has transformed the character into a Christmas icon on par with Santa, Rudolph, and Frosty, and the legend of Elf only grows each holiday season, as new generations discover it.

While a much-rumored sequel has yet to materialize, Buddy's tale has found another home on the stage. In November 2010, the musical adaptation of Elf debuted on Broadway, with an original score by the Tony Award-nominated team of composer Matthew Sklar and lyricist Chad Beguelin, and a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan (The Producers) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone) that takes some liberties with the film's plot. For one, the play is narrated by Santa Claus himself, rather than the Papa Elf character. But thanks to jaunty, wintry showtunes like "Christmastown" and "Sparklejollytwinklejingley," Elf: The Musical has become a phenomenon in its own right. After smashing box office records at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Broadway, the play has spawned a touring production, a soundtrack album, and an animated TV-special offshoot on NBC (2014's Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas). In 2018, the play hit the road again, venturing across the United States to ensure that seeing Elf on stage remains an annual holiday tradition on par with watching Elf on screen.

    A non-starter. Literatally.

    by B. P. on 12/13/22

Our first issue was with the management of the show. We arrived roughly 20 minutes early and the line was wrapped around the building. They didn’t seem like they were letting people in. We didnt even make it in the venue until about 10 minutes after the show was scheduled to start. We went ahead and got concessions and they were flashing the lights like the show was going to start but we made is all the way through the concession stand and into our seats. The show did not start until 30 minutes after the scheduled time. The seats at the Palace Theater are uncomfortably small. I am 5' 4 and could barely move in my seat. My sister is 5' 8 and the seat in front of her was digging into her knees. It was extremely uncomfortable. The show finally started and it was very difficult to see. The show itself didnt get off to a great start. It is just "Santa" trying to be funny and people dancing on their knees. It just wasnt very entertaining. We got 2 songs in and they had to stop the show for technical difficulties. We left. I can't comment on the rest of the show but the beginning was not good. I have no idea if or when they restarted the show.

    Exceeded any/all expectations

by Gracie on 11/24/22Emens Auditorium - Muncie

I am familiar with many musical theatre productions though Elf was not one of them, but I was so impressed with the entire cast and the way they pulled off this production seamlessly that I now consider myself a fan. My daughter and I were completely in awe the entire time and can’t wait to see another show here!

    Not as expected

by KirbyD on 12/15/21Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

This show was not what we expected. It was done by primarily children, but I did not see that anywhere when we purchased the tickets, other than it was amateur theater. We stayed to the end, but many people left after the intermission. We felt bad for the kids.

    High School Play

by Nikki on 12/14/21Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

I had no idea this would be an amateur rendition of the broadway musical. I was extremely disappointed. Not certain if it was advertised as such but I was completely duped. My nephew and I left after an hour.

    Misrepresented!!!

    by Alberto on 12/14/21

My family was really dissapointed. This was a childrens production, and should have been told when tickets were purchased. I'm sure kids' parents taking part in the event will provide great reviews, however This was not a highschool event!

    Elf

We thought we purchased a ticket for a Broadway show. It turned out it was a kid performance! The kids were cute, but we expected a little more!

Play Was Eh... Jovi (girlfriend) Was Standout

by Jackie Ross on 12/14/21Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

The adult performers were good. Santa's accent was odd and inconsistent. Buddy was more annoying than comedic. Standout was the girl who played Jovi the girlfriend. She was cute and what a voice!

    Poor performance

by N. G. on 12/14/21Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

Obvious it was thrown together. Staging terrible. Did not hold attention of little children. Actors pretty good. Story was terrible. Definitely not up to previous holiday performances. Not worth the money

The show was good, what you could understand.

by JW on 12/14/21Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

They really needed masks? If I knew I would not have gone. To me, the theatre is about the voice. These were muffled voices due to all the characters wearing masks.
