    Disappointing

    by a. f. on 2/25/20Aventura Arts & Cultural Center - Aventura

She was very melancholy -- which was her own description of herself - and it showed through her choice of story-songs and lack of energy. She could also use a sylist.

by drvannorman on 2/23/20Aventura Arts & Cultural Center - Aventura

Such a lovely evening of music. Betty and Christian make an amazing team. Betty has such a way of touching the soul with the nuance of her lyrics. Grateful to have been there. Aventura is a beautiful venue as well, staff are friendly. Makes for a memorable evening!

    The Voice of Broadway

by Bevsoprano on 2/22/20Aventura Arts & Cultural Center - Aventura

Betty Buckley is just phenomenal. No one puts across the essence of a song and tells the story like she does. Her voice at 72 is still beautiful, rich and warm. This concert was one of her best. Her pianist and arranger, Christian Jacob, is one of the finest in the country. He is the perfect accompanist. The stage lighting at Aventura was just gorgeous and the staff is efficient and friendly. I was impressed with how smoothly the venue is run. All in all, an incredibly enjoyable experience. I recommend BettyBuckley, Christian Jacob and the Aventura Performing Arts Center without reservation.

    Awesome night of music

by Nanny Lisa on 11/5/19The Saban - Beverly Hills

This was the most spectacular night of music. Tom Scott opened and he was wonderful. Then surprise guest Billy Valentine did a few songs. The glamorous Betty Buckley came out and wooed us. She has the voice of an angel

    She/We Deserve Better

by Evbaby on 11/5/19The Saban - Beverly Hills

For starters, I’m not sure a venue the size of the Saban is the right choice for cabaret music. Indeed, the first thing Ms. Buckley said on stage was “Hello, music lovers of LA” to acknowledge the meager crowd, well less than half capacity, I would think. Poor management on her side? Poor promotion? The production itself seemed slapdash. The next thing she said was to ask to have her stool brought onstage. I’ve never seen that before, on a professional level anyway. And worse, whenever she or opening act Tom Scott moved downstage out front of the band, they were in shadow. Was there even a run-through or sound check? They could have prepared…I bought my tickets nine months ago. (Graciously, Buckley thanked the production crew at the end of the evening). Fortunately, the music itself managed to (mostly) rise above the setting. I wasn’t surprised to see the same band for Buckley as accompanied Scott. These were her musicians, not his as he and they weren’t quite in sync. Nonetheless, he sounded great and guest vocalist Billy Valentine was spot-on with wonderful tone and phrasing. Buckley is not a rock singer but if she wants to sing Steely Dan, she should pick something more to her style than “Don’t Take Me Alive” (maybe “Katy Lied”?). But the majority of her set was intriguing, incorporating the expected show tunes and some more obscure but still involving songs which fit her well. And she was a charming hostess with between-song patter that was on point and not over long. And she was in lovely voice. Her personal presentation was a bit of a hindrance…dressed mostly in black, she tended to blend into the background. And for such an emotive singer, she should have her hair pulled from her face so we could appreciate her expression (that and she’s a lovely woman but I digress). I almost forgot any drawbacks when she duetted with Valentine on “Young at Heart” to close the evening. It was lovely and left me wanting more…just not at the Saban.

    Delightful

by mfalso on 3/12/17Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

Ms. Buckley put on a delightful performance. She sang a very interesting and pleasing set of songs. The musicians supporting her were first class. After the performance she very graciously signed autographs. But beware, do not use your smart phone during the performance, as she will point it out!
