About

With a catalog of songs that reaches back 50 years, Van Morrison always delivers a concert that’s impossible to predict  for his many ticket buyers. The iconic Northern Ireland native has, of course, recorded classic albums like Moondance and Astral Weeks, and timeless singles like "Brown Eyed Girl," "Domino," and "Wild Night." But he's released well over 30 albums during the course of his career, building a repertoire that veers from Celtic music to folk to blues to covers of standards. His focus on any given night could switch on the dime as he follows his muse wherever it takes him. From Madison Square Garden to Arizona Federal Theatre, fans fill seats to see Van Morrison on tour because the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is a master of making his own whatever genre or song he tackles. His unmistakable voice is a reedy and expressive growl, and his delivery --  which is constantly evolving -- conjures elements of jazz, blues and gospel. His latest album, 2012's Born to Sing: No Plan B, marked his first batch of original songs in five years and was hailed by many critics as recalling his much-heralded recordings of the late '60s and early '70s. It peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 chart.

    Van Morrison needs to retire

by Andrea M on 3/4/24Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Played 2 songs I’ve heard. No interaction with the audience. Stands there still with his sunglasses on. Just walked off the stage at the end while his band played Moondance. Weird. Does he really need the money? Doesn’t seem to be enjoying himself one bit. The band sounded good, something I should be listening to in a bar. Not a concert. Very disappointing.

    He didn't play the hits

by teach and run on 3/4/24Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

He played 18 cover songs and 4 of his own songs, but certainly he didn't play his top four or even ten songs. He left the stage early of the last song and has his band sing it. Everyone was so confused. It was like he was giving the double middle finger to the crowd. I bought tickets last minute for cheap on the resale market, and I still paid way too much. How people pay good money for this tour I'll never know. No brown eyed girl, no into the mystic. I heard he doesn't put on a good show, but I thought, "How bad can it be?"It was worse that whatever you think it will be. Don't waste your time and money.

    Excellant

by Murph on 3/4/24Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

The Fox is in pristine shape! Van's pipe's were on point. I wish he would have played a few more of his big hits.

    Van's Hippy Hippy Shake Lounge

by Van's Hippy Hippy Shake Lounge on 3/4/24Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Honestly, i'm not even sure he was worth the cheap tickets we got. Band is a bunch of pros, but I didn't come to hear Van sing a bunch of 50's rock songs that ALL SOUNDED THE SAME! Adding to the monotony, every instrumentalist got a solo EVERY SONG! He finally sprinkled in a few songs from his catalogue we knew, but without those familiar songs he would've been just another loud, drunken bar singer.

    Disappointed

by DesiB on 3/4/24Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I was very excited and looking forward to hearing Van Morrison live for the first time. At 78, he still has decent vocals and can play a number of instruments but I couldn't believe he played only 1 or 2 of his well-known hits. I'm sorry to say that concert was extremely disappointing. On the upside, the Fox Theater is a great venue and the staff there was helpful and courteous.

    Great concert

by Molly on 3/3/24Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Van did not do his greatest hits, instead he did old classics! His voice is a good as ever and it was a great concert. He starts on time and does a solid 90 minutes. I thoroughly enjoyed his show in Oakland, CA. He is one of the greatest and he has not lost a thing.

    Excellent show!

by Mindy on 3/3/24Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Van Morrison and his band put on an excellent show. I attended with three of my twenty- something kids and we all enjoyed it. The performers' energy was great. I would have liked to hear a couple more oldies, but I definitely enjoyed the songs that were played.

    Van Morrison so so!!

by Concertguy on 3/3/24Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Van the man was a performer that I have seen a few times and enjoyed his voice and songs. This time around, I wished I had stayed home and simply kept the memory of a great musician. His rock billy 50-60's songs were reformulated from he past, and most were lost in his interpretation. His social graces and interaction with the audience was zero. His very last song, he simply walked off the stage, no wave of thank you to his fans who had braved the stormy weather and paid good money, he simply evapriuated into the curtain while his band paid on for 10 or fifteen minutes.....very disappointing
