WEEN IN CONCERT:

From joke-rock heroes to experimental weirdos, Ween left no stone unturned in their 25 years of tongue-in-cheek sonic exploration before parting ways in 2012. The band’s cult following dreamed of a reunion, and in late 2015 their wish was granted when Gene and Dean Ween teamed up once again to bring their weird and wild sounds back to stages everywhere. Since the band's return, audiences have eaten up their impressive musicianship, off-the-wall humor, and eclectic catalog of fan favorites like “L.M.L.Y.P.”, “Bumblebee”, and “Push th’ Little Daises”.  Whether they’re putting their idiosyncratic twist on classic rock bravado, honky tonk country, or Prince’s “Minneapolis sound”, the two always manage to turn their diverse influences into something that can only be described as Ween—and that’s exactly what ticket buyers want.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Ween began as a series of tape machine experiments made by New Hope, PA natives Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo—otherwise known as Gene and Dean Ween. Starting in 1984 the duo began performing along to pre-recorded backing tracks, which they eventually converted into a series of late ‘80s cassette releases. After developing a cult following with performances at venues like Trenton, NJ’s famed City Gardens, the group attracted the attention of Twin/Tone Records, which commissioned the group’s 1990 debut GodWeenSatan: The Oneness. Ween jumped to major label Elektra for 1993’s Pure Guava and began to tour tirelessly, ultimately becoming one of the biggest cult bands to emerge in the ‘90s. Despite their success, Freeman walked away from the group in 2012 to deal with his drug and alcohol abuse. Ween thrilled fans in 2015 when they announced that a refocused and refreshed Freeman would be joining them for several live performances. While the reunion has fans excited to hear old favorites, devoted listeners are just as eager to see if Ween returns to the studio to release their first album in nearly a decade.

I want to stay here forever, with Ween!

by Super Fan on 2/21/24The Sound - Del Mar

There is not a bad seat in the house at the Sound! Ween put on a fantastic performance! The crowd atmosphere was fun and friendly. I liked the large monitors and seating area just outside the venue. Allows you to take a break, sit down at a table, enjoy food and drinks, wait for your friends or family, and continue watching the show on the monitors. You can even carry on a conversation while you wait in this area. Plenty of parking with easy access in and out of Del Mar. Could use more food variety but plenty of drink options and locations to buy them. Security was friendly and effective when needed. I’m looking forward to my next visit and concert at the Sound. Highly recommend!

    Fight in the Pit.

by gc on 2/21/24The Sound - Del Mar

The Ween music was great unfortunately The Sound let to many fights start in the pit and no one was 86 from the venue. The alcohol was the problem and many were drinking outside were security had said anyone drinking wouldn't be allowed inside, they lied. Will not be back to the venue for awhile but Del Mar Fair has SD Sheriff onsite so no problem with the troublemaking drunks.

Great shows. Venue way too crowded

by Ir376 on 2/21/24The Sound - Del Mar

As always, ween delivered. Although I wish they would move to include an intermission, that’s a minor complaint. The venue, although nice, was just way too crowded. I had a small circle of space for the entire show. I did take a break to grab a drink but I couldn’t really see or hear as well from that spot so I went back to the pit. I cant imagine how people would get out of there in case of emergency.

    WEEn is the real deal

by MFR on 2/20/24The Sound - Del Mar

Fantastic show. My only regret was not getting tickets for night two. They played hard and fast stuff, mostly. Which was amazing. The musical geniuses shined. I’m sure night two was more mellow/weird/pop stuff, which I was sorry to miss as I was left wanting more WEEN. Catch them if you can!

You won’t see a band as talented as Ween. I’ll see them anytime they’re in town.

    Best Band I’ve Seen

by Joobdoob on 2/18/24The Van Buren - Phoenix

I’ve seen hundreds of bands over the years. Ween are probably better than all of them. Joke songs or serious experiments? It’s all preformed better than pretty much any musician older or younger than them.

by Todd on 2/17/24The Van Buren - Phoenix

Ween never dissapoints. It's been almost 15 years since they've been to AZ. Hope they come more often. My first time getting to see them play 2 nights in a row. Played some great stuff that I've never got to hear live before and some favorites as well.
