About

ELVIS COSTELLO IN CONCERT:

He may be the "other Elvis," but when it comes to clever, madcap,  personality-drenched rock and roll, there is only one Elvis Costello. From his days in the British punk and new wave scene to his pioneering role in the rise of power pop, Costello has repeatedly broken the mold, appealing to both cult and mainstream audiences. On tour as a one-man-band in  2013, he displayed serious performance chops, making a backing band seem obsolete with beautifully stripped-down versions of classics like "Allison" and "What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding." Hitting the road again in 2014, Costello will be treating fans to his acclaimed solo show as well as select dates with his band the Imposters.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

London-born Declan Patrick MacManus, better known as Elvis Costello, began playing music at an early age under the influence of his father, a talented musician and bandleader. After playing in a pub rock band in his early twenties, he released his solo debut album My Aim is True in 1977 to moderate success, landing in the Top 20 in the UK and Top 40 in the US. Shortly after forming his backing band the Attractions, Costello  released his breakthrough 1979 album Armed Forces, a No. 2 hit in the UK and an enduring new wave classic. In addition to his knack for catchy, clever songwriting, Costello's provocative performances, pointed political lyrics, and anti-authority attitude helped fuel his success. With more than 30 studio albums under his belt, Costello's impressive run continues with another highly anticipated tour in 2014.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Simply an amazing show. So many great songs, and the man just doesn't stop! A great experience!"

"It's amazing that all of the talent on display was coming from one man. He played for nearly two and a half hours and not a second was wasted. Performers like him are a rarity."

"Quirky, eclectic and utterly entertaining. Elvis' voice is as distinctive as ever, and while he played many of his classics, the set list included many songs that were throwbacks to his father's time. I have a whole new appreciation for the man's guitar talents."

    One Of The Greats

    by AmericanMetal on 6/29/23

The complexity of his music was amazing. His ‘hits’ were fun and we all jumped up and down. But the magic was in the songs seldom played. Those songs started out questionable making you wonder what the hell. Then it sweep you up into a musical collage of heavy gage guitar smooth out by keyboards and vocals.. an awesome high….And Elvis is a cool funny guy that knows where he is playing.

    Disappointing

by Ro on 3/2/23The Wind Creek Event Center - Bethlehem

Besides barely hearing the songs that I thought I was going to hear during the 2 hours plus concert, Elvis seemed to sound better on those unknown songs instead of those songs that I was familiar with and wanted to hear. The five or six songs that he played that we did know did not sound like the versions that I remembered as the arrangements seemed to be somewhat altered. Perhaps his voice has changed due to health reasons, and he had to sing them that way. The band was good but not good enough to make up for the way that these older songs were performed. This had to be the first concert that I could remember where no one was that excited to get up and move around except to walk out or go to the bathroom as several people did during that evening. What's so funny about peace love and understanding was saved by the band's musicianship as Elvis did not sound good to me overall. Not until he performed the medley of the familiar songs at the very end of the show did anyone stand and try to get into the show. I should have looked at the previous reviews before going to this show and therefore should have seen him in his prime back in the late 70s/early 80s.

    No encore?!

by Annie on 2/28/23Ovation Hall at Ocean Casino Resort - Atlantic City

Been an Elvis Costello since high school in the 80’s. Seen him many times. Band was great, Elvis’s unique voice still great. However, vocals lagged a little behind the pace of the music on a few songs. Not sure why. Felt a little cut short at the end with no encore. Kind of a bummer…lights on, now get out. Maybe not the band, maybe venue rules, not sure.

    Elvis Costello is always great

by Archie018 on 2/28/23Ovation Hall at Ocean Casino Resort - Atlantic City

Elvis Costello is always worth any cost. The views were great as well as the sound. Only disappointment was the show was under 2 hours. Every show I've seen him in is always around 3 hours with encores. But as many people have saw shows there said all shows have time limits.

    Great Show as Always

by ragadrop on 2/28/23Ovation Hall at Ocean Casino Resort - Atlantic City

He played popular songs like Alison and Pump it Up and cool nuggets from his old records. The band sounded great and Charlie Sexton on guitar was a bonus. I've seen him 10+ times and have never been disappointed.
