About

CHRISSIE HYNDE IN CONCERT:

New wave icon Chrissie Hynde became a superstar in the '80s with The Pretenders, lending her swaggering croon to effortlessly cool hits like "Brass in Pocket" and "Back in the Chain Gang". More than three decades later Hynde is as vital as ever -- her 2014 solo debut album Stockholm was a critical and commercial success, landing on charts around the world and drawing her out for a highly anticipated tour. Her beloved contralto voice hasn't changed a lick, sounding as fresh as ever on new cuts like "Dark Sunglasses" and "You Or No One". Hynde described the new album as "Abba meets John Lennon", and she's not off the mark -- her dance-worthy live shows combine the best of disco, rock, and pop, making for a must-see concert experience fans won't soon forget.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Akron, Ohio-born Chrissie Hynde had her eye on rock stardom from an early age. In high school she frequently traveled to Cleveland to see shows, and after attending art school she moved to London to be closer to the UK music scene. Her time abroad involved a veritable who's who of the British music world -- she wrote for the renowned music magazine NME under the eye of critic Nick Kent, worked at Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood's legendary SEX clothing shop, and toured with Mick Jones in an early incarnation of The Clash. After several stints in other bands, Hynde formed The Pretenders in 1978. The band's self-titled 1979 debut album launched them to stardom overnight, topping the UK Albums Chart and spawning the seminal No. 1 single "Brass in Pocket". A string of acclaimed albums followed over the next three decades including Pretenders II (1981), Last of the Independents (1994), and Break Up the Concrete (2008), which the band accompanied with extensive worldwide touring. In 2014 Hynde made her solo debut with the album Stockholm, a critical success that stands with her best work with The Pretenders. A veteran live performer known for her grit, attitude, and one-of-a-kind voice, she continues to captivate ticket buyers with career-spanning performances on tour.

    Love Chrissie!!! Come to Spokane!

    by Steven Deven on 10/5/22

I met my husband in 92 (he's taking the mystery bus) and I'd been out of touch of the music world on an island in BC....he played some Pretenders and we've watched all the YouTube possible.

Great show but political comments out of place...

    by jdcoates63 on 11/7/16Phillips Arena - Atlanta

Chrissie (65) opened for Stevie Nicks (68) and they each put on a clinic for how to engage a crowd and perform. Both performers effortlessly went through their sets and frankly sounded better "live" than most new acts do today coming out of a recording studio. It was refreshing do not hear auto-tune at a live concert. The only disappointing part of Chrissie's show was when she made a political statement. She dedicated the song Holy Communion to as she called it, "These So-called Christians who will be voting for a certain guy this Tuesday, yeah, they're really Christian!" The crowd cheered/booed about 50/50. Not sure what's to gain from alienating 50% of your paid audience... John

A Memorable Night With Chrissie Hynde!

by Acrosstheinternet on 1/2/15Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

The night started so aptly with The Platters "The great Pretender" playing which was followed by her grand entrance. The crowd welcomed her with a standing ovation. She has not lost her stage presence and she commanded the audience's complete attention. She blazed through Classic Pretenders songs in between her new material from her solo project. The last time I saw Chrisse play Los Angeles was at the House of Blues Sunset for the release of The Pretenders Compilation Pirate Radio. The night held the same energy and magic of that show even without Martin Chambers the last remaining member of the Original line up. Chrissie vocals have the unique ability to recreate the same sound of her recordings if not better in live setting. She made several encores and promised at the end that she would return to play Los Angeles soon. If and when she does I will be there! I just hope its at the Palladium or the Music Box You simply cannot 't sit down for a performance with Great Chrissie Hynde

    Talk of the Town

by SoGrey on 12/27/14Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

First classic tune played was talk of the town, one of the faves that I wanted to hear the most and got everyone on their feet. An unexpected treat was the phone call and sounded as good as it did in the 80s.

A little old, a little new

by GregWilson on 12/24/14Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

Chrissie did a great job blending old Pretenders music with her new songs. She had a very solid band with her. Rock on! BTW, I also like the fact that she bans camera phones from her performance.

    Fantastic!!

by Hombreltno on 12/17/14Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

Chrissie's performance was amazing! She performed all her hits, gave two encores and was very entertaining. There were moments when people in the crow tried taking pictures after we were asked not to. The unfortunate part of that, was that she kept being interrupted. Threw some people and was very outspoken about photography. Other than that, she totally blew it out of the water!

Chrissie and the Pretenders were awesome!

by Bowie77 on 12/16/14Balboa Theatre - San Diego

I have been wanting to take my son to a concert. He is only 7 and this ended up being perfect. No cussing or big show, just a bunch of musicians rockin! Chrissie still sounds great and looks cool as shit. All the musicians in her band were more than excellent. I have been waiting 20 years to see them and it was worth the wait. The venue was amazing too. I had a great time with my son and he was dancing and screaming like everyone else.
