About

2 Dope Queens on Tour

Originally a wildly popular comedy podcast, 2 Dope Queens is a hilarious touring stage show, a monthly storytelling and stand-up night in New York, and a series of HBO specials, all hosted by writer/performers Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson.

The podcast 2 Dope Queens, produced by WNYC radio, originally launched as Blaria (Black Daria), based on Phoebe Robinson's popular blog. The two hosts set out to make the show a place where women, comedians of color and queer performers could feel at home talking and making jokes about whatever issues they found both funny and important. Noted guests on 2 Dope Queens, the podcast, included Michelle Obama, Marc Maron, Michelle Buteau, LeVar Burton, Aparna Nancherla and Nore Davis.

The HBO specials, produced by Tig Notaro, have featured guests such as Jon Stewart, Sarah Jessica Parker, Tituss Burgess and Uzo Aduba, as well as up-and-coming storytellers and stand-up comics.

Jessica Williams, born in 1989 in Los Angeles, began her acting career on Nickelodeon's Just for Kids series in 2006. She earned her comedy chops as part of the Upright Citizens Brigade sketch comedy group in Los Angeles, where she still sometimes appears. Williams might be best known for her stint as a Senior Correspondent on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart from 2012-2016, where she was the youngest-ever correspondent at age 23. She appeared on several episodes of Girls and starred in the Netflix movie The Incredible Jessica James.

Phoebe Robinson, who was born in 1984 and grew up in Ohio, studied screenwriting at the Pratt Institute in New York City. As a stand-up comedian, her appearances have included the Today show, Late Night With Seth Meyers, Last Call With Carson Daly, Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell, The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore and Broad City, where she also worked as a script consultant. Robinson is the author of two books, You Can't Touch My Hair (And Other Things I Still Have to Explain) and Everything's Trash, But It's Okay.

    Sound Quality Was Terrible

by jcigs on 11/1/17Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

The show itself was okay, however my friend and I were unable to hear about 50-70 percent of all jokes. This was due to terrible sound quality in the upper balcony area. We spoke to others around us and heard the same issue. When we spoke to the security staff they mentioned that it was something HBO was doing to the sound and that they had the problem noted down. My advice to anyone attending a 2 Dope Queens series of tapings would be to make sure you don't go on the first night. Go after that when there is a greater chance the sound is figured out.

The venue was wonderful but the security was a bit intense. HBO had particular rules about locking our phones in neoprene pouches which I was not a fan of.

Sound was terrible for the live audience!

    by 1dopequeen on 10/27/17Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

I was very disappointed that I couldn't really hear anything! When taping tv specials and podcasts, the special microphones make the sound very quiet for the live audience. I will probably never do that again!! But, 2DQ are fun and hilarious, obviously. The show would have been amazing, if I could have heard everything. Feel like I missed out on jokes!! thumbs down. Kings Theater is gorgeous though!!
