About The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team

The United States is home to one of the greatest teams in international soccer, an inspiration for girls, women, and fans everywhere. Millions of soccer fans in the United States and across the world were created when Brandi Chastain led the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (USWNT) to victory with her penalty kick against China in the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup final.

In the two decades since, the USWNT has continued its dominance in women's soccer and influenced a robust college and pro circuit in the United States. The USWNT also has made household names out of Michelle Akers, Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Abby Wambach, and Megan Rapinoe, among others, and inspired new generations of women's amateur, college, and professional soccer stars as well as women athletes in all sports.

The United States Women's National Soccer Team has won three FIFA Women's World Cup championships (including the first tournament in 1991) and four Olympic gold medals — in 1996, 2004, 2008, and 2012. The U.S. also has hosted the 1999 and 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup, the 1996 tournament at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and it will host the Olympic soccer tournament again when the games come to Los Angeles in 2028.

The USWNT has grown exponentially with the game over the last 35 years. The first game for the United States Women's National Team took place in 1985, and ever since they have been consistently among the top teams worldwide in women's soccer.

That success has continued under the English-born Jill Ellis, who took over as head coach in 2014 and led the team to the 2015 Women's World Cup title. After winning their eighth CONCACAF Women's Championship in 2018, the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team will look to take home their fourth FIFA Women's World Cup when France hosts the tournament in 2019.

It's about time Atlanta hosted a USWNT game! Loved the pre-game block party as well and getting the opportunity to meet legendary USWNT players. We need more of these!!

    Acoustics were very poor

by Nyla on 4/12/24Lower.com Field - Columbus

The event was great but the acoustics were poor quality - could not understand what the announcers were saying at all. Poor presentation of "play by play"- not full details on substitutions or goals.

Sydney, San Diego & Columbus - I was there!

by Amy Super Fan on 4/12/24Lower.com Field - Columbus

All the women were on fire for the Final of the She Believes Cup in the beautiful Lower.com field in Columbus, OH and best of all Alyssa Naeher was her usual brillant self - saving the day during the PK's! The coach switched up the starters so we got to see some different players than the Final of the Concacaf Gold Cup (which I also attended). AND Mallory Swanson is BACK - Yahoo! It's so fun seeing the changes to the roster since the World Cup - I attended the semi & final in Sydney (even though the USWNT wasn't in the games). I had fun chatting with Carli Lloyd in her broadcasting booth across from the Opera House.

    Edge of your seat excitement!

by GoForGold on 4/12/24Lower.com Field - Columbus

The USWNT played a tough match against the Canadian rivals. The game was filled with nonstop action ending with the most exciting penalty shot victory! Columbus and Lower.com Field provided the perfect atmosphere for the perfect ending. Looking forward to seeing them back in Cbus!

    Pretty good 👍🏼

by Balake on 4/12/24Lower.com Field - Columbus

Food and drink were a little pricey but that’s just how it is in the U.S. today. Other than that it was a great time!

    Doubleheader excitement

    by Judith on 4/10/24

I get so caught up in the play that I end up rooting for both teams. I think that is the coach and referee in me that just appreciates good play and skills. Japan players were much smaller than the US players, but they were fierce and skilled. In the end the US took the win. The 2 teams played well together and I would love to see them head to head again. The Japanese team gave their congratulations to the US team as well as lining up to wave at and bow to the people in the stadium. Great teams and great game. Canada and Brazil were a hard fought game ending with a shootout and Canada for the win. Brazil was not happy and immediately left the stadium. I was disappointed in their attitude at the end. Very proud of our National team. I wish I could attend more of their games. Also very proud to see more women referees. It is hard work keeping in shape for such a fast paced game, controlling the field and making the right calls. I miss those days.

Great event space - poor direction

by Judith on 4/10/24Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

The event space is beautiful and people are nice. They are just not very knowledgeable about the layout, gates, seating and parking. Especially as it relates to handicap or older patrons. I actually paid for quite expensive club seats. Wasted a lot of time with incorrect parking for my seat area and then finding and getting to the correct area. I arrived 2 hours early. Did not get to buy merchandise or enjoy the club area. My seats were outstanding though. I would purchase those again. Hopefully maybe for world cup.

    Fantastic

by Liz on 4/9/24Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

It was so so fun to get to watch the US Women play. The atmosphere was so supportive of women and girls. I loved the posters that the kids could fill out regarding dreaming about a career. Loved how many people were there. Love that we got to see two matches.
