red, black and GREEN: a blue - BRILLIANT!!!!!

by genoopie on 6/14/12Playhouse/Intiman - Seattle

Truly one of the best performances I have ever seen. Great use of space, sets, audience engagement. Performers are flawless. Content is deep, rich, moving, real, poignant, thought-provoking. Song, dance and beats are superb. Had it been in town longer, I absolutely would have seen it twice. Don't miss it!

    UNIQUE AND OUTSTANDING

by djess on 6/14/12Playhouse/Intiman - Seattle

The performance of red, black and GREEN: a blues (rbGb) was so totally original and extremely well executed. The four person cast did an amazing job of combining words, music and movement- both with their own bodies, and with the brilliant set that had seemingly endless combination possibilities . Thought-provoking, inspiring, innovative and insightful, I would recommend this production to anyone with a progressive, forward-moving mind and spirit. [NOTE: some of the usher staff at the theatre had difficulty with the novelty of the performance and the unconventional lining up of patrons instead of seating prior to the performance. In particular, an older white female usher was very condescending to younger patrons of color-- who in fact understood much better than the usher what was going on.]

Brilliant, but needs a tiny bit of stage editing

by vannamocha on 6/13/12Playhouse/Intiman - Seattle

The play itself... the text, motion, music... is brilliant. It's original, thoughtful, provocative, fresh, and complex. Think Ginsberg's Howl in the 21st century. At times the staging got in the way of the play, though. The onstage mingling with the audience at the beginning of the play went on way too long and lost any sense of purpose after about five minutes. And I never could figure out what the purpose of the video screens was. It wasn't until near the end of the play that I even noticed that there was stuff being projected on the curtains/walls at the back of the stage, and had no idea what that was for either. Those two things were distracting and not at all helpful in conveying the powerful words of this dynamic play.

Red, black and GREEN: a blues

by OtterOne on 6/13/12Playhouse/Intiman - Seattle

This collaboration between artists was rich and deep. The audience is invited onstage for the first 15 minutes of the play. The montage of video, dance, song, drums, words, was earthy, honest and edgy.
