Empowering
Apollo Theater - New York
AMAZING!!! The program was phenomenal. The emcee, Legacy dance group, and youth jazz band were enriching, humbling, and inspiring. The emcee did an amazing job uplifting and educating the audience about the richness of the African American culture and history.

You can’t say you never heard of the Principles of Kwanza!
Apollo Theater - New York
The show went on for longer than I expected and the highlight of the show for me was featuring the young dancers from the Harlem Children’s Zone! They were talented and I wish they included an African dance in their presentation but it was all hip hop. It would also have been nice to see the professional dancers appear and dance full out in the Hip hop segment. I was not thrilled to sit through the constant quizzing from the host or the incredibly tiny bathroom at the Apollo that had two stalls but was too small to adequately fit. It was better last year when it featured the powerful Sonia Sanchez

Apollo Theater - New York
The Kwanzaa Celebration at the Apollo was fabulous. The program was well designed and performed. Just having the opportunity of seating in the historic Apollo Theater was special in itself. But to be a port of spiritual, cultural and historical event made it much more gratifying. Well Done Apollo.

Best Ever
Apollo Theater - New York
Have been going for over 25 years. This was the absolute best ever show. The inclusion of the young performers both in dance and the orchestra made all the difference.

Not what I was expecting
Apollo Theater - New York
The show was actually no what I was expecting based on the advertisements I saw for it. I thought that it was going to be a cultural celebration of Kwanzaa and all the seven principles of the holiday. I was a little bit disappointed that there was not more of that. I was hoping that it would give my daughter and I and introduction to the meaning of Kwanzaa in art farm because we’d like to celebrate it next year. Some of the individual performances were very nice and well put together but, the show in terms of a production as a whole, fell a bit flat for me. Not to mention I spent nearly the whole show watching ushers lead late comers into the theater and sort out ticket mixups in the aisles which blocked the view. It was rather frustrating experience to say the least. My 12-year-old was disappointed as it was her very first live show at the Apollo theater. We actually did not stay for the full show and left early during the final performance thinking… “well there’s 2+ hours of my life that I’ll never get back“ Although to be fair, theater staff had ticket holders who arrived early or in enough time, still outside standing on line at the scheduled showtime. And the show started before everyone was let into the theater. Logistically, that part was rather disorganized in the onus is on the theater and its staff . Other theaters I have been to have a cut off time where the doors close, whether you have tickets or not and they have certain parts of the production where late comers have to wait before they are seated. The Apollo should consider implementing something similar to this, which also means that the theater itself needs to be better prepared and organized. But then again if this is the vibe of the culture in terms of operations at the Apollo then I guess that’s normal.

Kwanzaa celebration
Apollo Theater - New York
This was a great show! We came with our Jack and Jill group from VA and loved it. Great performance and love the involvement of the children. Keep providing programing such as this. I am so glad we were able to make it. I loved this more than the Broadway play we saw. Blessings to all.

Apollo Theater - New York
The overall performance was good for families who went there to expose their children to the Kwanzaa principles or to renew those principles. Personally, I expected to see a lot more dances by Forces of Nature and more African type dances by them since the billing focused more on this group.
