About

Alt-rock veteran Evan Dando became a college radio icon in the '90s as the frontman of legendary Boston band The Lemonheads. Two decades later he remains a treasured torchbearer of literate rock music, consistently entertaining fans with wry lyrics, smart songwriting, and personality-soaked live shows. Whether he's performing with The Lemonheads or playing a solo set, Dando always brings a hearty helping of showmanship to the stage. His career-spanning sets of classics like "My Drug Budd" and "It's a Shame About Ray" never fail to get fans reminiscing about flannel and coffee shops.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Evan Dando was born and raised in Boston, MA, and it was during his years at the city's Commonwealth High School that he formed his first band with classmates Ben Deily and Jesse Peretz. The trio got their start in 1986 as The Whelps, but they changed their name to The Lemonheads the following year and released their debut single "Laughing All the Way to the Cleaners". The band released three albums in the late '80s on Taang! Records, but it wasn't until they signed to Atlantic in 1990 that they began to gain traction. The band's fifth album, 1992's It's a Shame About Ray, earned them their first appearance on the Billboard 200, eventually reaching Gold-certification thanks to its catchy title track and a popular cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson", which gained popularity by being on the soundtrack of Wayne's World 2. After several more successful albums the band went on hiatus, and in 2001 Dando made his solo debut with the album Live at the Brattle Theatre. He followed up in 2003 with Baby I'm Bored, a critically acclaimed album that charted in both the US and the UK thanks to stellar singles like "Stop My Head" and "It Looks Like You". Dando revived The Lemonheads with a new lineup in 2005, and he continues to impress on tour performing both with the band and as a solo act.
