Colorado Rapids History

The Colorado Rapids are among the original 10 charter clubs of Major League Soccer, debuting in its inaugural season in 1996. It didn't take long for the Western Conference contenders to establish themselves as one of the premier teams in the league. They made it to the MLS Cup final in just their second season and earned eight playoff berths in their first 10 years of play.

In 2010, the Rapids made their second trip to the MLS Cup Final and defeated FC Dallas in a dramatic, come-from-behind 2-1 victory for their first championship. Since then, the team has made several playoff runs and topped the Western Conference following the 2021 regular season.

Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park

The Colorado Rapids shared home turf with the Denver Broncos in their early years. In 2007, the team moved into a state-of-the-art facility to call their own: Dick's Sporting Goods Park, a 19,000-seat capacity stadium located in the suburb of Commerce City. As was the case at Mile High, the venue's exceedingly high altitude — 5,200 feet above sea level — has given the Rapids a considerable home-field advantage, with the club winning roughly two thirds of the games held in their own backyard.

The relocation coincided with a wholesale rebranding, with the team introducing their current mountain-themed logo and a change in uniform colors from black and blue to burgundy and sky blue, to match the other professional sports franchises owned by Kroenke Sports Enterprises, whose roster includes the NHL's Colorado Avalanche, the NBA's Denver Nuggets, and English Premier League soccer team Arsenal FC.

Great experience, free parking, easy access. Had a great time at opening day, really not a bad seat in the stadium

    We were really let down

    by Rod on 8/6/23

I bought 5 tickets (Order #: 35-54015/MTN) for my grandsons and their parents and me for the 7/31 Rapids/Toluca game. It was a very stormy night with lots of lightning and rain. Because my daughter and son-in-law don't like to keep their children up too late at night, we finally gave up at 9:20 p.m. and left the game because, even if the game had started then, it wouldn't have finished until the wee hours of the morning. We found out when we got home that the game was played and that it had started at 9:40 p.m.!! I think I should get reimbursed for the tickets, or at least get "rain checks" Rodney Tuenge

    Disappointed

    by Mp on 8/3/23

Game was 2 hours weather delayed, Mexican fans were obnoxious and rude. Rapids lost. I think I’ll stick to just watching on TV.

    Rapids Game

    by Kelly on 8/3/23

We were visiting from out of town and took an Uber to the stadium. Upon arrival we saw that no one had been allowed inside yet and then found out on social media that there was a weather delay and that we should take shelter in our car. Since we did not have a car and they were not letting anyone in there was no where for us to take shelter. We were standing in an open area, no other businesses around to go into and seeing lightning approaching we decided the safest thing would be to take an Uber back to our hotel. We kept checking social media for updates and then it became too late for us to spend more money on Ubers and unfortunately we could not attend the game.

    4th

    by Egg on 7/16/23

I was greatly disappointed on how Ticketmaster and the rapids handled the game on the 4 th. It was an expensive ticket because it included fireworks. The weather did not allow that to happen. I know weather cannot be controlled however after a 2 hour rain delay before the match made things difficult. Only the first half was played after the restart and a second delay was needed after the first half. It wasn’t until another hour has passed we’re the fans informed that the fireworks had been canceled leading to a mass exodus. This being a special event the price of the tickets was increased. However the rescheduled date for the fireworks was a regular priced ticket so everyone who paid for the game on the 4 th paid for someone else to enjoy the show. Zero compensation has been offered to date. They also invited ticket holders to return to watch the second half of the match mid week. It’s not the easiest venue to get to. I am disappointed that this is the way it was handled.

    Rained Out

    by TC on 7/15/23

The game was suspended after the first half. And when they rescheduled it they didn't have the fireworks show for that game. They instead did them for a game they had that Saturday which sucked since that was the only reason I bought the tickets. Wish we could've been comped some tickets for the Saturday game instead. Waste. We couldn't even make the rescheduled game for the following Wednesday.

    Very disappointing

    by Gwendolyn on 7/15/23

I purchased tickets for the game in order to have great seating for the fireworks however, it rained, and they canceled the event. The new event was on a Wednesday and we work so we were unable to go. Also, there was no fireworks on the time they rescheduled us. I would’ve been more happy seeing a different team, play and watching fireworks on the Saturday and then scheduling us with the same team, and it being on a Wednesday with no fireworks I am very disappointed and will not purchase again.
