Buffalo Bills Team History

The Buffalo Bills became the seventh team to join the American Football League when Ralph C. Wilson was awarded the franchise in 1959. In 1964 and 1965, the Bills won the AFC Championship, and then-Head Coach Lou Saban was named AFL Coach of the Year for both seasons. After Marv Levy took over as Head Coach in 1986, the Bills won five AFC championships and made four consecutive Super Bowl appearances from 1990–1993. To date, the Bills are the only team to play in four consecutive Super Bowl games.

Since hiring Head Coach Sean McDermott in January 2017, the Bills have made five playoff appearances. In 2022, the Bills made playoff history in a game against the Patriots when they became the first team in the Super Bowl era to score a touchdown on each of its first seven drives of a playoff game.

Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium

Since opening in 1973, Highmark Stadium, located in Orchard Park, New York, has been the home to the Buffalo Bills. The stadium underwent several name changes; known as Ralph Wilson Stadium from 1998 to 2015, it was renamed New Era Field in 2016, then Bills Stadium in 2020. Following a new naming rights deal in 2021, its official name is now Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Stadium.

A visit to Highmark Stadium for a Buffalo Bills game is sure to be a loud and high-energy experience, as the team’s fanbase, the Bills Mafia, is arguably the most loyal in the NFL. The group got its start in November 2010 following the upset from a dropped pass by receiver Stevie Johnson that could have resulted in a game-winning touchdown. The hashtag #BillsMafia caught wind on Twitter, and since then the group has been known for their tailgating antics and game-day attire and energy.

Parking was a nightmare missed the start of the game, didn’t get any souvenirs and missed some festivities. Everything else was amazing.

Good game, great seats, nice people

by Ellen on 1/3/24Highmark Stadium - Orchard Park

weather was good, so that helps. Buffalo in December can be anything from a blizzard to 60°. It was about 38° and overcast with no precipitation, makes for a nice Sunday afternoon at the stadium. Bills won, so there's that!

    Awesome

by Gene on 12/23/23Highmark Stadium - Orchard Park

Was the first pro game for me. The seats were great, they were out of the rain and were heated. I could not have asked for a better experience.

Even the rain couldn’t ruin our day!

by Sharona on 12/21/23Highmark Stadium - Orchard Park

First time back to this stadium in 30 years for a Bills game. Great seats in proximity to the field, forgot they are metal bleachers. Acoustics in this venue are not that great. I’m hopeful the new venue till fix all of these issues. Parking situation was a nightmare with no one directing traffic.

    Avoid the PULLED PORK SANDWICH

by Mike on 12/20/23Highmark Stadium - Orchard Park

Me and my dad drove down from Toronto to watch the game. Long drive but a great energy and atmosphere around Highmark stadium. The aura of tailgating and good team fun was great. At halftime we got 2 pulled pork sandwiches before heading back to the snug 333 level. My sandwich of pork looked more like a slop of grind and my dad had 2 pickles and NO MEAT in his. It was quite literally 2 pickles and 2 pieces of damp bread. I shared part of my sandwich meat with my dad and as the night progressed we both found ourselves feeling increasingly worse. Finally we ended up back at our hotel room “giving back” the fine cuisine until the wee hours of the morning. NIGHT RUINED. AVOID PULLED PORK SANDWICH!!

    Good football horrible halftime

by Brent on 12/20/23Highmark Stadium - Orchard Park

Paid 300 bucks a ticket to sit in the absolute back of the stadium not a problem for me great view but for 300 bucks you think the bills could pay for a halftime performance. But instead they got 4 untrained dogs to run a bad managed dog race.

A music festival for the day

by Mitch on 11/23/23Highmark Stadium - Orchard Park

Let me run you some context first, I’ve been going to Bills game’s ever since I was 12 years old. My dad’s been a season ticket holder for 10 years and I’ll admit it was tough going to the games when the bills were very average, and would barely scored touchdowns, but now that they’re really good it’s so refreshing hearing the shout song constantly throughout the game I just bought my friends seven of them to be exact for there first Bills game and I know it’ll be a yearly event for them. I went to about four games last year. Including that crazy Minnesota game the memories I make at these game will stick with me the rest of my life and I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to spend as much time as possible at the tailgate going around learning about other bills fans chatting about their experiences. It’s the best part I’m not from Buffalo but every time I go, I inch closer and closer. There is no experience quite like a Buffalo Bills game. I would say the only close comparison, and again this is including a tailgate, which is the most important part. The only close experience would be watching a soccer game in England. Where the vibe of their fans is very similar to the vibe of the bills fans.
