GUIDED BY VOICES IN CONCERT:

For more than two decades, DIY torchbearers Guided by Voices have stood as a bastion of experimentation and lo-fi grit in indie rock's increasingly commercialized landscape. Their loose, sketch-like compositions truly come alive at their frenetic live shows, where the band tears through 90-second songs while frontman Robert Pollard sings, drinks, and karate kicks with reckless abandon. With two albums out in 2014, the ever-prolific band will be treating fans to new material alongside all their favorites at several  rare appearances.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Ohio in the early '80s, Guided by Voices developed around the work of principal songwriter and frontman Robert Pollard. Following several years of independent releases and local shows, the band began to find a wider audience when 1992 album Propeller became a college radio staple. Their growing reputation landed them a deal with Matador in 1994, and in 1995 they released Alien Lanes to critical acclaim and nods from big media outlets including MTV and Rolling Stone. The band continued to record and tour throughout the '90s and '00s, weathering lineup changes, hiatuses, farewell tours, and reunion tours — becoming a veritable indie rock legend in the process. With two new albums hitting shelves in 2014, the band is sure to be in top form at their highly coveted reunion shows.

Guided by Voices is the best live band around.

by Tehmeh on 9/11/23Dayton Masonic Center - Dayton

No fancy light show, no choreographed dancing, just rock n roll and a high kick. Super tight band.

Amazing 40th anniversary show in Dayton

by Alex on 9/5/23Dayton Masonic Center - Dayton

These guys are rock legends. They put on an amazing show for all the kids. So much fun. Doug Gillard is fire on the guitar. Bob Pollard is a fountain of creativity. Long live GbV!

    They Even Did 'Razor Bug!'

by Dana on 9/5/23Dayton Masonic Center - Dayton

The mighty Guided By Voices celebrated their 40th Anniversary with two sold out shows in Dayton over the Labor Day weekend. Playing songs from as far back as "Vampire On Titus"and "The Grand Hour,"right up to this year's "La La Land"and "Welshpool Frillies,"it was a great party. They played the essentials - 'I Am A Scientist,' 'Glad Girls,' etc. - and some rarities like 'My Impression Now,' and 'Little Lines.' On night one they even performed 'Razor Bug.' My biggest take away is that I hope "the club is open"for GBV for many more years.

    amplified to rock

by jill hives on 4/4/22Teragram Ballroom - Los Angeles

The band was awesome as always and the venue is a solid one. I did notice it was pretty hot inside, and even the band were getting a bit warm. Restaurant and bar access was convenient, as well as the location of the merch table. All in all I think it is a solid venue and a guided by voices concert is always excellent.

    GBV Always Great

by Mark on 4/4/22Teragram Ballroom - Los Angeles

Guided By Voices played The Teragram in LA April 1st. As always they were great. About 50 songs. They really give you your moneys worth. The only drag was The Teragram. Can't afford air conditioning? Too f'n hot. Many people left because of the heat. The Palladium is just as bad.

This one is on the house

by Jerome on 4/4/22Teragram Ballroom - Los Angeles

50 songs. 3 hours. Real guitars and amps. Since rock is technically dead, it’s always great to join the captain going down with the ship. No stadium pretense, but GBV would be the greatest stadium rock bad ever. Uncle Bob always delivers.

by SBD on 4/4/22Teragram Ballroom - Los Angeles

I know GBV has a pretty good following of fans who go to every show when they’re in town, and after my first time seeing them live, I will definitely be one of those fans too! Amazing and inspiring show!
