About

Annie Lennox has achieved amazing success in her musical career, selling over 80 million records worldwide both with the Eurythmics and as a solo artist. Recently, she appeared at a memorial concert honoring Nelson Mandela. Fans who have been lucky enough to get tickets to her tours rave about her throaty alto voice and provocative persona on stage. While Lennox has retired from touring, she continues to appear on stage periodically. She sang at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert in June 2012 and performed “Little Bird” at the 2012 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony.

Lennox studied music from an early age and attended the Royal Academy of Music, where she played in several bands before joining Dave Stewart to form the synth-pop group, Eurythmics. The duo released eight studio albums, a live album, and two compilation albums. Six of the eight albums went platinum in the UK: Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), Touch, Be Yourself Tonight, Revenge, Savage, and We Too Are One. Peace, released in 1999, was certified gold. The singer and songwriter released a large number of singles as the Eurythmics, eight of which reached the top 10 on the UK Singles chart. The single, “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and “There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)” topped the UK Singles chart. Two of Lennox’s solo albums, Diva (1992) and Medusa (1995), hit No. 1 on the UK Albums chart and reached multiple platinum status. Bare and Songs of Mass Destruction reached the top ten in UK albums. Lennox has been showered with accolades, including eight BRIT Awards, four Grammy Awards and an Academy Award for Best Original Song. She was honored as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2011 for her humanitarian work with a variety of charities, particularly The SING Campaign, an organization that raises funds and awareness for women and children affected by AIDS and HIV. While fans might not be able to see Lennox in person any time soon, her catalog of hits keeps her voice at the forefront of pop music.
