About

Paul Stanley on Tour

In the KISS universe, Paul Stanley is the Starchild, the rocksteady rhythm guitarist and harmony vocalist responsible for co-writing legendary hits such as "Detroit Rock City," "Shout It Out Loud" and "Rock and Roll All Nite," while individually penning tracks like "Love Gun" and "Black Diamond." With his own project, Paul Stanley's Soul Station, the New York City native strips off his makeup and throws on a dapper suit to croon soul, R&B and Motown covers with a full band.

Stanley prides himself on being an artistic Renaissance man of sorts. He's a dedicated painter known especially for evocative portraits and colorful abstract works. He's also dabbled in musical theater, notably by portraying the mysterious Phantom in a production of The Phantom of the Opera. He's released two solo albums, a 1978 self-titled effort and 2006's Live to Win. And in 2014, he released a well-received memoir, Face the Music: A Life Exposed. On the business side, he's the co-founder of the restaurant chain Rock & Brews, among many other endeavors.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without music. Stanley was born Stanley Bert Eisen in 1952, and grew up absorbing the '50s and '60s rock 'n' roll he saw on TV, as well as classical music from his parents. He picked up guitar as a teenager, and played in a few bands before teaming up with his future KISS bandmate Gene Simmons in the band Wicked Lester.

When the duo started playing together in another project that would soon grow into KISS, Stanley was instrumental in getting the band going. Not only did he design the band's logo, he also placed the Village Voice ad looking for a lead guitarist with "flash and ability," which drew original player Ace Frehley into the fold.

Decades later, Stanley remains a mesmerizing performer. With KISS, he mixes his trademark over-the-top stage banter with focused playing, enabling the iconic songs to take center stage. And when performing with Paul Stanley's Soul Station, he exudes passion for classic soul and R&B via a delicate vocal touch that brings out each and every musical nuance.

FROM KISS ALIVE II TO SOUL STATION REVIEW

by JEFFSHADOW on 3/31/16The Rose - Pasadena

My first concert was KISS with Cheap Trick on August 24, 1977. From that night on I have been a dedicated KISS fan (even a member of the Kiss Army!)... I had been reminiscing about Eric Carr who had passed in 1991 and decided to look for a new KISS tour. I found Paul Stanley's Soul Station and bought tickets for the event at The Rose in Pasadena with no hesitation. I feel that the Coach House is too crowded and I would not be able to make it to the Canyon Club with my work schedule.I had missed the Paul Stanley tour in 1989 and had regretted that for 26 years! The Yelp reviews about The Rose were rather startling and I was very concerned about my rapid investment in a show without learning more about the venue first. Everything worked out just fine; yes, there were paper plates and the service was somewhat haphazard but the dinner was fantastic. They even had Pabst Blue Ribbon beer! To miss a show like this would have been devastating. The service staff was still learning the routine, yet the level of care was admirable. The concert (Paul without a guitar ?!?) was fabulous, entertaining and worth every dollar. My wife loved the show. I often surprise her with concerts, plays and other events (TOTO, Rain, plays at the Globe Theatre in San Diego, Halestorm in Minneapolis and much more). I wished I could have located my "I WAS THERE" badge from the Forum in 1977 and shown it to Paul. Hey, almost forty years now following the Hottest Band in the World ---KISS!!!

    Great Show, mediocre venue

by Formerfan01 on 3/1/16The Canyon - Agoura Hills

As far as Paul Stanley and Soul Station it was a great time had by my whole family. It's always good to see Paul finding his own personal creative outlets where it can be just about the music as that's the basis for any band regardless of image. My BIG complaint is with the venue. Couldn't seat us where I paid premium prices to BE seated. Free for all.

by KISSGirlfromWayBack on 3/1/16The Canyon - Agoura Hills

Summing up the concert in one word: EXCELLENT!! If I had my way, I'd watch Paul & his "other" band over & over. We left satisfied, but wanting more...
