Springsteen first emerged onto the music scene in the early '70s (joined by the now famous E Street Band in 1973), and his folk-rock style evolved into the heartland rock and roll for which he is commonly known. What remains constant with Springsteen are his complex lyrics eloquently expressing the struggles of the working class and gaining him a massive and extremely devoted fan base. As a songwriter, he has frequently been compared to the legendary Bob Dylan. His 1975 album Born to Run was so popular, he was featured on the covers of both Newsweek and TIME in the same week, but it wasn't until 1984 that he would record the most successful album of his career--Born in the USA. Springsteen's long list of hit songs include "Hungry Heart," "Born in the USA," "Glory Days," "Dancing in the Dark," "I'm On Fire," "Tunnel of Love," and the Oscar/GRAMMY Award-winning "Streets of Philadelphia." Springsteen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.
