Nine Inch Nails, an influential and popular industrial rock group, is largely the effort of a single singer/songwriter, Trent Reznor. The band's first album, Pretty Hate Machine, found an audience with industrial rockers as well as mainstream listeners. With tracks such as "Head like a Hole," which aired as a video on MTV, Nine Inch Nails was able to popularize industrial rock and develop a large, diverse fan base. The band continues to create boundary-pushing music full of dark themes, experimental electronica and intense rock.
