INFORMATION SOCIETY IN CONCERT:
Information Society was America's chart-topping answer to '80s British synthpop juggernauts like Erasure and The Pet Shop Boys. Their 1988 single "What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy)" hit No. 1 on the dance charts, proving The States could synthpop with the best of them and paving the way for future dance music artists. Today they continue to bring their classic sounds to fans on tour, treating ticket buyers to sweaty sets full of lush keyboards, body-rocking beats, and deliciously '80s vocals. Whether they're playing hits like "Walking Away" or performing high-energy deep cuts, Information Society always treats concertgoers to a blast from the past that feels perfectly at home in the present.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Information Society was formed in 1982 by a group of college students in Saint Paul, MN. They spent their early days experimenting with various electronic styles before settling on the fusion of synthpop and electro heard on their 1986 debut single "Running." The The song was a sensation in NYC's underground club scene and went on to become a Top 10 dance hit, setting the stage for a string of popular singles that followed. Their self-titled 1988 debut album peaked at No. 25 on the Billboard 200, spawning the dance hits "Walking Away" and "What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy)", which both featured vocal samples from Star Trek. Their rise continued in 1990 with sophomore album Hack and its bevy of popular singles including dance floor favorites "Think" and "How Long". Information Society released two more albums in the mid'-90s before calling it quits in 1997, but reunited in 2007 for the album Synthesizer, their first in more than a decade. Since then they've continued to tour tirelessly, including an acclaimed string of shows in support of their 2014 album Hello World.
Way to go APEX! Information Society was fantastic and I appreciate the environment and experience.
I went to this concert because of one song I really loved. I wish I would have listened to more of the other albums before going. I enjoyed all the songs at the concert which is really rare when you haven't heard them before. They are high energy and electric I don't know why more of the songs are on the radio because most would be popular now. They were way ahead of their time, I have been listening to all their other albums since the concert. Don't miss this band!!!
The venue was awesome…everyone was great! The music and sound were perfect! I really didn’t want it to end! Can’t wait to come back and see more music here! Information Society never disappoints!!
Great band great venue! Looking forward to the next concert!
It was like a Delorean appeard and Information Society stepped out. What a great show. It was a late start but it was worth it. I'd see them again and again and again after this show.
I felt the Northern Lights Theater is an excellent place to watch a concert. Very intimate space. Not a bad seat in the house! Both bands were good but Information Society really had a great performance! They rally got the crowd going! I would definitely go back to this location for a concert. Great table seating!
What a great show. We drove from Chicago to Milwaukee to be at the concert. It was great and unforgettable. Besides the music, we got to meet all the band members, including Kurt Harland at the signing.
Information Society was just awesome. High energy from beginning to end. They played old stuff but did focus on their new cd. HELLO WORLD. Which is awesome as well! Loved our seats but would love it if they would make buying seats easier. If you don't get the secret word right, you start all over. It was a pain! I ended up in the balcony because of how you have to order tickets. For $20.00, it was way more than one could have ever expected!
I really just went to see Book Of Love. Now a duo, they still sounded great. They played their popular song, but my favorite song they played was "Still Angry" not only because I really like it, but because I was surprised that they performed a song that wasn't one of their "hits." Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of Information Society. A lot of the songs they played started out great, but like most techno songs, they ran too long and started to sound very similar. Oh well, at least I got to rest after dancing to Book Of Love!
Saw Information Society at an 80's rewind concert. They were awesome. It was so much fun. However, I was disappointed by the opening act, Book of Love, who I was also excited to see. Unfortunately Book of Love sounded like they just picked up a keyboard and mic after not touching it in 20 years. I.S. was a pollished act that took me back to "new wave" high school.
