About

GWAR IN CONCERT:

When it comes to gory thrash metal spectacle, no other band even comes close to the sick and twisted monstrosity that is GWAR. Taking the stage in gruesomely excellent costumes, the band executes their hilarious metal send-ups with a faux-macabre pageantry that approaches the divine, sacrificing celebrity effigies on stage and dousing entire audiences in fake blood. Whether they're unleashing "The New Plague" or demanding that "Zombies, March!", GWAR put on a show like no other act on earth, and despite longtime frontman David Brockie's recent passing the ever-dedicated band still plans to treat fans to select shows in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Virginia in 1984, GWAR developed an early following with their costumed, prop-filled, spectacle-heavy take on thrash metal. Simultaneously embracing and poking fun at the genre's extremes, the band struck a chord with audiences looking to indulge in metal's excesses without taking them too seriously. Their 1988 debut LP Hell-O was a huge hit in Germany, with subsequent albums like Carnival of Chaos (1997) and We Kill Everything (1999) enjoying considerable success in the US. Over the years, they've landed songs with titles like "Endless Apocalypse" and "War Is All We Know" on charts around the world, an impressive feat for a group of guys who claim the destruction of the human race as their primary goal. In early 2014, GWAR frontman David Brockie was found dead from unknown causes. In a show of tremendous fortitude and strength, the band announced several David Brockie memorial events and still plans to appear at select events throughout the year. Over the course of their career, GWAR have packed venues such as Irving Plaza (NYC), and the Depot (Salt Lake City).

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Gwar rocked, it was fun, the crowd was definitely into it. The pageantry was definitely funny and fun. Be prepared to get covered in blood..."

"If you like metal and have a sick sense of humor, go see them. What a festival of blood, theatrics, and crisply played thrash metal. GWAR was a complete spectacle ."

"GWAR nailed it. Theatrics were well balanced; new album cut is sick. Eagerly awaiting the next show."

Ridiculously so. After 50 years of concerts, by far the the loudest show I've been to.I feel sorry for all the folks on the floor without hearing protection. We all had earplugs in.we left after the first band to aviod hearing damage.

    A bloody good time

by Henny on 3/24/24Knitting Factory - Spokane - Spokane

The scumdogs came to Spokane to slay again. This is the 3rd time I've seen them live in Spokane and it won't be my last. The new guitarist Grodius Maximus was very interactive and I feel like he's a great new fit into GWAR. I came in dry and I left soaked in human and alien blood. 10/10 always enjoy it and will be back.

    Good show- lousy venue

by Gwar juice on 3/24/24Knitting Factory - Spokane - Spokane

Long time curious- first time victim Gwar was as weird as expected- very moist. I’ve worked securely for concerts 8 years and this show is most memorable. Knitting Factory subtracts a star for their always disappointing venue. $9 beers and obstructed views from most areas - we stood on stairs for partial and uncomfortable watching

    Debut of Grodius Maximus!

by Chuck Farley on 3/15/24LONDON MUSIC HALL - London

It was GWAR so of course it was awesome. X-Cops opened, and I hadn't seen them since 94. They still have it, and new music is coming! Cancer Bats were next and they brought the energy! Cool cover of Sabotage (Beastie Boys). Finally GWAR hit the stage. This was the first tour for new guitar player Grodius Maximus. He loves dolphins and can shred! Some interesting set list choices like Fish Fuck, and Crack in the Egg. I wasn't really trying to, but I stayed dry until the end when the slaves blasted me with spew. I did the meet and meat package which was well worth it, and I would recommend it.
