About

Goo Goo Dolls, a band that rose from the punk scene in Buffalo, New York, penned several of the most definitive hits of the ’90s. Forming in 1985, the Goo Goo Dolls experimented with hard rock before landing on a winning formula that incorporated elements of acoustic and alternative rock for 1995’s A Boy Named Goo. The album yielded the band’s first Billboard 200 chart placement at No. 27 and its unlikely third single “Name” climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1998, the band vaulted to global ubiquity with “Iris,” a ballad written for the City of Angels soundtrack that later ushered in their quintuple-platinum sixth album Dizzy up the Girl. The song remained atop the former Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart for 18 weeks, a record that stood until 2020. The Goo Goo Dolls solidified their stratospheric success with the equally catchy follow-up single “Slide,” which hit No. 8 on the Hot 100 and was certified platinum itself. In 2002, Gutterflower earned the band their highest Billboard 200 peak at No. 4, while 2006’s Let Love In added more catalog highlights like “Better Days'' and a cover of Supertramp’s “Give a Little Bit.” Founding members Johnny Rzeznik and Robby Takac have toured extensively across the 2010s while maintaining a steady output of new projects, including 2019’s Miracle Pill and 2022’s self-produced Chaos in Bloom.

    Fun and Nostalgic

by Lasherfan on 4/11/24The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort - Lincoln

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I booked my tickets for this concert. I bought them on a lark since I had always liked The Goo Goo Dolls sound from back in the day and enjoyed hearing them when they would pop up on the radio nor listening to my music devices. Plus, I was interested in checking out The Venue. Of course, I was familiar with the popular songs (Iris, Name, Broadway) but did not even know they had put out a new album a couple of years ago. So, expectations were not set high for the concert. But they were really good. And even though I wasn’t familiar with a lot of the songs, lead singer, John Rzeznik’s vocals…when he could remember the lyrics (he comically fumbled a couple of times)…made even the least familiar song worthwhile. Neither I nor those who accompanied me to the concert were as fond of the songs sung by Bass Guitarist, Robby Takac. But it didn’t make the experience unenjoyable. The Dolls brought a lot of energy, humor, openness (especially about low points that inspired songs like Sympathy) and a really good vibe. If you get a chance to catch them in concert…do it. It’s a fun way to spend an evening reminiscing and hearing some catchy new songs.

    Amazing!

by Goochi26 on 4/11/24The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort - Lincoln

The band was on point, sounded great and you could tell they were happy to be there. The crowd was amazing and it was a fantastic night. The GGD never disappoint, I've been attending shows of theirs for over twenty years (yikes) and there is no place I'd rather be than at a show.

    Good n Bad

by Jeff on 4/11/24The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort - Lincoln

The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino. The Venue was great. Good visibility and sound everywhere. John can still sing great, voice is actually smoother now. Got super tired of the his using the F-word, ruined some great songs. Made us enter the smokey casino 100 yards away from the Venue like cattle when there were plenty of other places to enter. That alone would make me think twice about going to another concert there.

    Fun concert

by Teresa on 4/10/24The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort - Lincoln

It was a wonderful concert. A mixture of old and new songs, some popular others not familiar with or new. What I enjoyed most was learning the stories behind some of the songs.

Bands was Great, The Venue Needs Improvement in a Few Areas

by S.mystery on 4/9/24The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort - Lincoln

I really enjoyed The Goo Goo Dolls actual performance. This was my family’s 3 or 4th performance at The Venue. Areas of improvement for The Venue that I’d greatly like to finally see- 1- Allow guests to enter/exit at the clear door right in front of The Venue. This is especially important for those with heath issues such as having an asthmatic family member, those who just can’t stand the strong smoke-as in having it stained into your hair/on your clothes, those who are freezing or baking from the weather and those with dressy concert shoes on and don’t want to walk unnecessarily extra far in them. It’s so annoying that The Venue forces everyone to walk past the sidewalk entrance (right next to The Venue’s concert entrance/exit), all the way down to the casino entrance, then back through the smokey/crowned casino just to get back next to The Venue’s entrance that you were just at. Afterwards you must repeat all of this just to get back to the parking area past the street light. It would be GREAT if concert parking wasn’t a few blocks away and in the actual parking lot like The Hard Rock allows for their concert goers. It’s time to finally stop this forced attempt at making your concert goers spend money in your casino. 2-Start performances on time/closer to it. Don’t just cater to those who arrived late and are still in line for alcohol. 3-Try to do something about what absolutely drives me nuts at casino shows, particularly at The Venue. I’ve noticed that many of those present have no idea who they are even seeing and have to get up and walk in front of you CONSTANTLY during the PERFORMANCE to pee or get more booze. To top it off, they can barely even do that at The Venue without greatly invading your personal space because the seat rows are so close together. I wish more actual concert fans-who came to see the band and not just drink excessively, had access to tickets well before these people, like w//presales on the artist’s official sites. Those folks just interested primarily drinking should just stay in the bar/casino and not detract from true fans concert experiences. 4- At our last 2 shows in a row now, the LOUD/drunk/rude/clueless people behind us would not shut the hell up during 3/4 of the show. Even during slow songs or when the band was talking. Have ushers do something about this and/or maybe do a cute little video before the shows (like theaters do), or limit alcohol sales to hopefully help these stupid people so they aren’t constantly interrupting/detracting from my concert experience that I paid a lot for. 5-Merch-Have more than ONE, TINY booth for merch sales, more salespeople and do better at hiring polite employees who are not rude and rushing customers. The one booth line is often insanely long with only 2 salespeople helping. Although with this concert since they were only selling 2 items (?!) it wasn’t the longest I’ve seen at The Venue. 6-Ticket prices- This is hit or miss at The Venue. For Duran Duran, it was ridiculously high even for the upper balcony. For that same section (balcony-front row even) last Aug., I paid way less at Golden One to see them. 7- Have The Venue staff directing traffic at the concert area parking lot after the show. It took us FOREVER to exit the lot and would have gone much quicker w/ parking attendants.

    Gooriffic

by Cattiva on 4/9/24The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort - Lincoln

Goo Goo Dolls never disappoint. John Rzeznik put on an amazingly energetic performance. Of course Robby and the rest of the band were awesome as well. The only disappointment is when they started to play Iris…..only because this signifies that the concert has come to an end and I will begin to have withdrawals until I can get my next live Goo fix. Hopefully the Goo Goo Dolls will continue to create new music and perform for many more years.

Venu did excellent, by turning down the sound

by Dee on 4/9/24The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort - Lincoln

Finally a show where the band music wasn’t so extremely high that you could hear the singers sing. Unlike the Gwen Stefani show, that cost double the money, and we heard nothing and went home with a headache; awful. With the Goo Goo Dolls, we heard his words and melody, because the music wasn’t so loud. It was comfortable, enjoyable and it made the show worth the monies and entertaining.
