ART GARFUNKEL IN CONCERT:

Art Garfunkel, Grammy-winning songwriter and one-half of the inimitable folk duo Simon & Garfunkel, is fully recovered from a vocal cord injury sustained in 2010 and back on tour. Fans at the singer's 2013 shows were blissfully aware there had even been an issue, as the singer passionately wove his voice through beloved classics like "Sound of Silence" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Amid rumors of a new solo album and possible future tour with Paul Simon, Garfunkel will take the stage with more energy and excitement than ever in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Queens, NY, Garfunkel began singing in the first grade, perfecting his technique with a wire recorder given to him by his father. After meeting Paul Simon in 6th grade, the two began  performing together as Tom & Jerry, honing the close vocal harmonies that would mark their later material.  Following a degree in art history from Columbia, Garfunkel once again joined forces with Simon for the duo's 1964 debut album Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. The album contained "The Sound of Silence," a sleeper hit that ultimately reached No. 1, foreshadowing the success the duo would achieve with chart-topping albums like 1968's Bookends and 1970's Bridge Over Troubled Water. In the ensuing decades, Garfunkel has continued to record and tour — both solo and with Simon — contributing to one of folk music's most venerable legacies.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Art Garfunkel. That's all I have to say. He has one of the most beautiful and touching voices I have ever heard. After 72 years of life, he's still got it."

" Art Garfunkel was wonderful. It was like he was sitting in my living room. He sounded wonderful and was so open with his thoughts, feelings and his view of life! Don't miss this show!"

"This is the best show I've seen in years. His voice was top-notch, and you can tell he is really on the mend. In fact, you really couldn't tell there had been any issues with his vocal cords."

    Great Evening

    by J. J. on 1/17/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

A great entertainer! Enjoyed his poetry, learning how his musical life began. Duets with his son were touching. The El Cajon Magnolia is a very nice venue. Looking forward to more events at this locale.

    Art and son

by Geoff on 1/14/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

Art shared his music, his appreciation of Paul, his poetry, his humor, his son (who sang several songs) and his voice. A warm, charming evening for all.

    Great Evening

    by J. J. on 1/13/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

Thrilled to experience the amazing Art Garfunkel and see him doing so well at age 78. He admitted that his singing voice is virtually gone but he more than compensated with a blend of his writings, memoirs and duets with his son, Art Jr. The magic is still there as he soloed his most iconic songs. Art Jr. has a beautiful voice to carry on the legacy. The event was greatly lauded by the sold out venue.

    Art Garfunkel

by Motor City Terry on 1/13/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

I saw Art Garfunkel on Thursday night, January 9, at The Magnolia in El Cajon. He put on a really good show. He sang a few of his own songs, some songs by other artists, but mostly Simon and Garfunkel songs, primarily some obscure songs from their early albums. He spoke about his relationship with Paul Simon and read some of his original poetry. The only slight negative was that he had his son, ArthurJr. sing a few songs. He was not very good. I thought that this was rather indulgent, but it was understandable since Art is 78 years old and he could use a break in between some songs. I was most impressed with The Magnolia as the venue. It was easy to get to, with ample free parking. We sat way in the back, but still had a great view of the stage. The acoustics were excellent. I would be glad to see another show there.

    Worst Sound System Ever

by rcw on 1/13/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

It’s hard to imagine a $7 million renovation resulting in such an incredibly pathetic sound system. I saw Art Garfunkel at ECPAC years ago and the sound was fine. It was fine with all the acts I have seen there. But what exists now is a muffled mess and whoever is responsible should be fired. I won’t return until this massive error is corrected.

Art Garfunkel still sounded awesome! He sang several Simon and Garfunkel songs, and it was wonderful to go down memory lane. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.

    bummer show

by sharon loves pool on 1/12/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

i did not really enjoy this show because he didn't play hardly any of his music and did too much talking. It was fun to see his son perform. after only 40 mins they took a break for 20 mins, which everybody was surprised at, i found it very disappointing.

    Magnolia

by A Fan on 1/12/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

The venue was great! Enjoyed the ambiance of a smaller venue. Convenient parking with easy in-and-out. Great to see Art Garfunkel - a trip down memory lane! Enjoyed the sharing of his experiences and poetry, too. Tickets indicated 7:00 pm show time; however the actual show time was 8:00 pm. I wouldn't have rushed to get there if I'd know the concert wasn't starting until 8:00 pm.

    Fabulous concert; fabulous venue

    by D. T. on 1/12/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

It was a terrific evening. My only suggestion is to let the ticket holders know when the concert is due to start. Tickets said Doors at 7. We rushed though dinner, only to get in and stand around for an hour before show time.

    Brought back good memories

    by D. S. on 1/12/20The Magnolia - El Cajon

So pleased, 78 and can still carry a tune, bringing back such wonderful memories of my younger years. Beautiful music interspersed with his poetry and duets with his son, paying tribute to the Everly Brothers. His praise and recognition of Paul Simon was a welcome surprise that warmed my heart and preserved my image of them together untarnished.
