BOY GEORGE IN CONCERT:

In an era where synthesizers and drum machines dominated the pop charts, Boy George defied the mainstream and created a counterculture with his distinct, soulful vocals and androgynous style. As the frontman of new wave band Culture Club, he entertained audiences around the world with rock and reggae-infused tracks, becoming one of pop's most enduring icons with his bold makeup and eccentric stagewear. It’s been eighteen years since his last solo release, and fans will be delighted to know that George will return to the spotlight in 2014 for the This Is What I Do Tour, complete with a nine-piece band, including a brass section, and plenty of glamour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Boy George rose to fame as the intriguing lead singer of Culture Club, which found commercial success with the release of their 1982 debut album Kissing To Be Clever. The record featured the international No. 1 hit “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?," launching the band to global stardom virtually overnight. Culture Club continued their chart run with “Karma Chameleon," the second single off their sophomore album Colour By Numbers, earning them a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1984. Boy George started his solo career in the late ‘80s with the release of Sold, which produced several hit singles and compelled George to form his own record label, More Protein, in 1989. Over the course of his decade-spanning career, the mercurial George has reinvented himself numerous times, finding success as a DJ, fashion designer, and Tony Award-winning producer for the musical "Taboo." Hot on the heels of the 2013 release of his ninth studio album, he'll grace fans once again with his legendary showmanship on the 2014 This Is What I Do Tour.

    Amazing show

    by M. N. on 7/23/23

I’ve waited for far too long to see George. Roy and Mikey perform. Was so worth the wait. Berlin and Howard Jones opened and were fantastic (30 minutes each). Culture Club performed for a little over an hour. Maybe the venue had a time restriction but he really could have performed longer if he wanted. I had 7th row seats and being short I wish I had spent another 90 to sit closer.

by A. B. on 9/28/22The Wind Creek Event Center - Bethlehem

Boy George looked and sounded terrific! The other two members of Culture Club, along with the band and vocalists, were having a great time playing and singing, causing the audience to have a party!! Took me back to the 80's for an evening-- would love to catch them again soon.

    Always Amazing

by DeniseY on 9/21/22MGM Northfield Park - Center Stage - Northfield

Even in this small venue, Culture Club lit up the night, fully engaging with the audience. Boy George was full of zest, zeal, energy, and sassiness as is true to his character. The resounding message from the band is "be yourself," as is evidenced in the lyrics of newer songs which were intermingled with their top hits from the 80s. It was a wonderful experience, and I'm sure the next thing will be even more amazing.

Had a great time at the Boy George concert. The show was good and he played all the songs from the 1980s that I remembered him for. The venue was excellent. Not too large not to small ..just right. Fun night of reminiscing.

    Great Show and Entertainment!

by Bassetmom on 9/20/22The Rose Music Center at The Heights - Huber Heights

Boy George was phenomenal! He had the stage presence of yesterday! Full stage show (2 hrs and 45 minutes) and even played until curfew for the facility! Still has his voice and his backup singers were great too! In fact, the entire stage was full of energy and on top of their game! The original members of Culture Club that are still with him was just as entertaining and talented as always! Really glad we went to the show and didn't miss this one! The ROSE is the best venue in the Dayton area for concerts!
