About

Legendary Academy Award® and Tony Award® winner Kevin Kline makes his eagerly awaited return to Broadway in Noël Coward’s outrageously irresistible backstage comedy PRESENT LAUGHTER.

With a spectacular cast headed by three-time Tony® and Emmy® Award nominee Kate Burton (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy), Tony Award® nominee Kristine Nielsen (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike), and Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back) in her Broadway debut, with direction by Tony Award® nominee Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Hand to God), PRESENT LAUGHTER follows a self-obsessed actor in the midst of a mid-life crisis. Juggling his considerable talent, ego and libido, the theater’s favorite leading man suddenly finds himself caught between fawning ingenues, crazed playwrights, secret trysts and unexpected twists.

I wish I was able to see it again before Kevin Kline left because, not only is the play really good, he is unforgettable in this role.

    Fabulous finale for PRESENT LAUGHTER

by evelynlee3 on 7/5/17St. James Theatre - New York

Tony-winning Kevin Kline was, as expected, excellent. Not too hammy but charming and in full control of the Noel Coward charisma and exactitude. The actress playing suave and devious Joanna was excellent. Kate Burton could have had a bit more sparkle. It was difficult to understand the first young thing who fell for Gary Essendine -- she spoke very fast. It was the final performance and the audience leapt to its feet-- would have expected a bit of an extended curtain call, but that was not to be. The actors may have been ready for their upcoming break.

    Made for Kevin Kline

by LotteryWinner on 7/5/17St. James Theatre - New York

My husband and I loved the play. The cast and set were terrific! I know Noel Coward couldn't have known Kevin Kline, but it seemed like the part was written for him. Highly recommend it.

Kevin Kline was born to do Noel Coward

by Mariandl on 7/4/17St. James Theatre - New York

The play itself was of course witty and entertaining as Coward plays always are, and the cast was outstanding. Kline's performance was flawless, and Kate Burton and Kristine Nielsen were also especially good. A wonderful afternoon with many laugh out loud moments.
