About

ANN: AN AFFECTIONATE PORTRAIT OF ANN RICHARDS is a play with Emmy® Award-winning stage and screen actress Holland Taylor. A hilarious and inspiring evening of theater celebrating a beloved daughter of Texas, Taylor hopes ANN will "bring a magical touch to the past and the present, swirling them together as only the theatre can do, and leaving the audience with an enhanced sense not only of a person and a time, but of themselves."

    Engaging and amazing

by JasWall on 12/10/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

This is definitely one of the best shows I have ever seen. Holland Taylor is as amazing as the real Ann was! I didn't feel one second of boredom during the entire show. I can't believe how Ms. Taylor did this!

    Ann was awesome!

by AKAivygirl on 12/9/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Early in the performance I forgot it was Holland role playing and actually felt that Ann Richards was on stage talking directly to me! What a terrific actress she is and what an impactful woman Ann Richards was! She is sorely missed!

    Spot on!

by FWDENNY on 12/7/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Holland Taylor captured the Spirit of Ann Richards in a remarkable one-woman presentation. Not political, it is more about Richards the woman. Funny, edgy, and sometimes tragic; you leave there with the understanding that Ann Richards was one of the greats...

"Ann" is a tour de force for Holland Taylor

by Dramasandthepappas on 12/6/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Holland Taylor captures the wit, sincerity, and humanity of Texas's last truly benevolent governor. Recent governors have prided themselves on their execution totals. Ann RIchards fights a battle of conscience when faced with an eleventh hour appeal. Ms. TAYLOR's interpretation of Richards is perfectly accurate without being a characature. Who knew she is such a versatile and SKILLED actress. My view in one word: WINNING!

We really enjoyed this play. Holland Taylor portrayed Ann Richards beautifully, the other actors did a great job, and the play gave a full picture of who Ann Richards was. We miss her. Thanks!

    Fine tuning needed

by Bhws on 12/6/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Great overall! The commencement speech was too long, making the first part drag. I ate a big lunch before and found myself nodding. This may have been more my fault than yours, however. The second half was much much better. Taylor is a natural "telephone" comedienne and really had super great timing with the telephone parts. We lived in Waco for nearly ten years as "visiting" Yankees and never felt we were a real part of it all due largely to our Yankee accents. My wife was almost turned down for a job she was overqualified for because she was told by her new boss that she talked too Yankee and might turn the customers off. The point is that in your efforts not to make Ann sound too corny you might be robbing your character of the twangy accent needed to make Taylor sound more authentic and not like Bennington College.

    Holland Taylor is outstanding!!

by Christmas27 on 12/6/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

From beginning to end Holland Taylor held your attention. She told the story of Ann Richards with sincerity and compassion. She was funny and bawdy and real. If this show was still running in Chicago, I would see it again.

    Ann

by Secorner on 12/6/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Fabulous tour de force. Ms. Holland evokes the feistiness and intelligence and moral fiber of this fascinating woman and the audience was with her all the way.

    Amazing Ann!

by Maxie53 on 12/6/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

My partner and I took our moms to see "Ann". We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed the play! What a wonderful afternoon. Special acknowledgement should be given to Holland Taylor. We were in awe at her stunning performance. Illinois would have done well to have someone like Ann at the helm... Bravo!
