    Most amazing ever!

Yo-Yo Ma is a musician like no other. I always love seeing him in concert and think he is wonderful every time.

    Amazing experience!

    by V. C. on 1/1/23

It was truly an honor to see Yo Ya Ma perform in person, especially outside and for two and a half hours without sheet music. The touches of Hawaiian culture were beautiful and very appropriate given the event was in Hawai'i. On this note, I feel compelled to say that the reviewer who stated that the Hawaiian performers were "self righteous" and "trying to make attendees feel guilting for a past they did not contribute to" is totally inappropriate and inaccurate. Sharing parts of a culture they are part of (in this case Hawaiian) and want to preserve is none of the things this reviewer claimed it to be and was simply an appreciation for the culture of the land they are on.

    Once-in-a-lifetime Experience!

by AlohaDoc808 on 12/13/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

That the winner of 18 Grammy Awards and the Presidential Medal of Freedom would bless Hawaii with his talents is incredible. That Yo-Yo Ma would use his international stature to shine the light on our Indigenous voices is awe-inspiring. Thank you, Mr. Ma, for a once-in-a-lifetime, unforgettable night under the stars. Me ke aloha pumehana, Nā Kanaka ʻŌiwi

    Disappointing

by Cello Fan on 12/5/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

My mom and I were really looking forward to seeing Yo-Yo Ma in concert for the first time. The parking was a nightmare. We had to circle multiple parking lots only to end up parking far away in a residential area and walking in the darkness. Once in the venue, there was no spots available on the lawn to sit. I overheard an usher saying the concert was way oversold by 1000+. I found one spot on the lawn right off the walkway (18-inch square) to sit, but my mom had to sit on the edge of the walkway on the rock wall (and she felt uncomfortable because the ushers kept trying to get them to move). Where I sat, there were people constantly walking past, talking, so it was noisy and I had trouble hearing the music. Hordes of people started to leave before the concert ended so it added to the noise and distracting activity. It was generally an unpleasant experience, as it was too crowded, noisy and we could not even sit together.

Wife said was greate but could not see it.

by Barry S. on 12/5/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

We purchased tickets (3) and on the day of the show we left our house and arrived at the venue an hour and a half before the show started. We could not find any parking within a three mile radius so I dropped off my wife and daughter so they could enjoy the show and I missed it but at least two of our three purchased tickets got used. My wife said it was a good concert but obviously over booked.....wished I could of seen it especially since I was looking forward to it but maybe next time.

    Terrific

by Carol on 12/5/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

I cannot imagine anyone playing that many pieces for that length of time without music sheets. I love many beach’s composition but have never heard his cello suites. I have been educated. Yo-yo ma was just terrific!

    Amazing music!

by Rose on 12/5/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

Great music by Yo-Yo Ma! We had been waiting for a show like this...wanted to watch him in the mainland but sold out. I'm glad it was outdoor so more people can watch a very talented cellist in the world. Thank you!

    Constant walking people

by Hamakua on 12/5/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

It was great idea that there were tickets sold for $25 so more people can enjoy the live music. However there were too many people in the lawn. We were standing in the back by fences and people were constantly walking even during concert. Didn’t really experience the live musicWe stood over 40 minutes to get in the concert.

    Missed beginning

by Fats on 12/5/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

The line to enter the shell was not staffed with sufficient personnel! Concert goers should have been alerted to the fact that bags would be checked, water/water bottles/food would not be permitted. I stood and watched as the line (which extended to the alternate parking lot at Paki Avenue) slowly snaked through the entrance because bags had to be checked. My daughter was a part of that line and by the time we entered, we had missed 20 minutes of the concert in spite of being in that line at 7 p.m.
