About

There is a reason audiences fell in love with Yann Tiersen’s film soundtracks - his lush melodies sparking nostalgia and longing in a handful of lilting notes. With stripped-back versions of his moody, swooning piano pieces, field recordings, delirious violin and toy-piano whimsy, the multi-instrumentalist’s solo show will make the grand Concert Hall feel intimate and magical – like a show inside a vintage music box.

There’s more to Tiersen than the much-adored scores to Amélie (which was largely taken from his existing studio albums) and Good Bye, Lenin! Inspired by post-punk as well as French folk music and chamber pop, his distinctive style is realised through his genreless approach to composition and mastery of literally dozens of instruments. His new project, EUSA, lays field recordings from his native Breton coast over the twinkling, eloquent piano for which he’s most famous. It is all here in this dazzling live show, where his most beloved pieces will nestle up against some of his most personal work in years.

    I was so disappointed

    by D&V on 7/1/22

I went to listen piano and it was very loud electronic music! By the end the theater felt empty and we left early! I couldn’t stand it. Im so sad! I had been waiting for him for very long time. Anyone can do that type of music but very few people can play piano like him! Im sad deeply sad

Venue is not good for classical performances like this one!

by Ehsan on 6/30/229:30 CLUB - Washington

As it was listed as "classical" event, I realized this place is not good for such events. It is not very convenient to stand up and watch. Also, schedule was not very clear and I did not know when Yann Tiersen will perform on that night. Overall, disappointing!

    What was that?

    by Whydidigototheshow on 6/29/22

DC show was trash. The opening noisemaker was Moon Diagrams. I lasted about three minutes. As I stood outside I counted over thirty people leave, most to not even return for the headliner. Talked to a few concertgoers and everyone was confused about what the night was to bring. I stayed around thinking Yann Tiersen would save the day. Alas- a late arrival on stage, an editing of sounds and volume, and finally the music began. I knew walking into the venue, there was no backing band nor instruments, but I had hoped his DJ set would turn things around. Regardless it being tolerable, regardless of him actually playing a track off Portrait featuring his wife (I believe) on vocals, I left after about 45 minutes. Glad he’s doing something he loves, just not my style. Lastly, I wish the venue had better priced drinks and more disclosure online about the type of performance. The opener switched from a singer songwriter to some trash noise. No notification. I’d also state it as Yann Tiersen either with a (solo) or (Dj set). Oh, and there was this lovely lady there with her mother to see Yann Tiersen. The lady was pregnant and they got outside as quickly as possible when Moon Diagrams onstage antics began. She begged for a refund or a voucher so she could come to a good concert down the road. She even drove hours to the show. They treated her like she was worthless instead of a human and was kind of like, “your loss”. That, that was shameful to see. I hope she had a safe drive home and can live fully and still enjoy Yann Tiersen’s older music.

Took 2+ Hours for him to get onstage

by Les on 6/28/229:30 CLUB - Washington

Awful concert. He finally walked onstage at 10:15pm after a 8pm start time and one of the strangest opener musicians I’ve ever heard. Be basically made noises that made me think of a haunted children’s hospital. Yann Tiersen had great music but I left 45min after the show finally started because I was so tired from standing around for over 2h waiting.

I wished Yann played a little of his old repertoire,

by Fan on 6/28/229:30 CLUB - Washington

I enjoyed his new route of mixture a little bit of old with new experiences in sounds and visuals, but I really wished he would played a little of his old time favorites as well. Great job to one of my favorite composers!!

    Left after the 3rd "song"

by SC on 6/25/22Somerville Theatre - Somerville

Really not enjoyable. It's fine to switch your music genra, but this was extreme. The flashing lights were untolerable and at points we had to cover our ears from the screeching noises. It felt like a social experiment on how much people can take uncomfort.

When a Pianist don’t play piano on the stage

by Stephane on 6/22/22MTELUS - Montreal

I was thinking of going to see a Pianist. No piano on stage. Yann Tiersen is a DJ. He doesn't know how to introduce himself to people. We waited 1 hour before the start of the show. I'm not the only one disappointed. Several children had accompanied their parents thinking they would see and hear this musician's repertoire. I left after 3 songs. His posters should describe the content of the show.

    None of his classics

by Nope on 6/21/22MTELUS - Montreal

Extremely disappointing. Yann Tiersen only played songs from his most recent album, which is radically different from his previous work. It was mainly electronic music. There was not a single instrument on the stage. No piano, no accordion, no violin. We were basically watching Yann Tiersen click on numerous computers and mixers. I used to be a fan of him, but not anymore.

    Disappointing

by Lina on 6/21/22MTELUS - Montreal

I was really looking forward to the experience, but him showing up an hour late really had a negative impact overall.
