About

WOODS IN CONCERT:

Woods creates intelligent pop that's just as comfortable with psychedelic experimentation as it is with folk songcraft. Since the release of their 2015 album With Light and with Love the group has stayed true to both sides of their sound, oscillating between the spacey freak out of the album's title track and the beautiful pastoral pop of “Leaves Like Glass”. At the band's live shows Singer/guitarist Jeremy Earl delivers insightful, heartfelt lyrics in a gasping whisper while keyboardist G. Lucas Crane adds howling organ lines and guitarist Jarvis Taveniere plucks out echoing guitar leads. Their sway-inducing grooves come courtesy of drummer Aaron Neveu and bassist Kevin Morby, two skilled players who are sure to keep ticket buyers grooving with their razor-sharp grooves.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

In 2005 singer/songwriter Jeremy Earl started recording his somber acoustic ballads in the Brooklyn rear house he was sharing. The seeds were planted for the aptly titled 2007 album At Rear House, which featured a haunting collection of early compositions. By 2009 Earl had added multi-instrumentalist Jarvis Taveniere, bassist Kevin Morby, and keyboardist/effects specialist G. Lucas Crane to to the mix, adding a new layer of sonic complexity to Woods’ straightforward songs. After their first tour with the expanded lineup Woods released the 2010 album At Echo Lake, which was named one of the year’s best albums by Pitchfork. The 2012 addition of full-time drummer Aaron Neveu allowed Taveniere to focus solely on his guitar, which helped the band perfect their live sound. In 2015 Woods released their critically acclaimed album With Light and with Love, which has audiences everywhere clamoring to see these freaky folk rockers in concert.

Roots rock, psche-pop extraordinaire(s)! Jam band geniuses. Remembering and reminding of everything from The Grateful Dead to Modest Mouse, Robert Pollard to Anton Newcombe, Graham Nash to Kevin Parker! Love 'um and would see them again in a heartbeat.

    Woods were awesome

by mojojimmie on 11/5/12Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

I'd never heard of Woods before, but my friend recommended them and so I bought a ticket. They were an awesome show! Their sound was unique, with some amazing 12-string guitar that sounded almost like a keyboard, excellent harmonica to mix it up, and I really liked the bass lines. The bass carried the melody and the beat through when the guitarists were jamming, keeping the songs coherent and easy to follow (with some sick ass solos in there too).
