    Underwhelmed

by New to Derby on 3/2/20Credit Union 1 Arena at UIC - Chicago

It was our first time to roller derby - kids 11 to 15. It did not keep their attention. It was the same play jam after jam. We thought we would see more skating. For the ticket price I expected more entertainment and excitement. The half-time band was pretty weak. You can go to the WNBA Sky games for less money and it’s much more interesting.

Exciting, Fun and would do it again!

by RayMChtown on 3/31/15UIC Pavilion - Chicago

This is my 2nd time at the Derby. From the moment I stepped down to the track seats, the atmosphere was exciting. The announcer was entertaining and everyone in the crowd was entertained. The ladies made the event unbelievably exciting with their physicality and athleticism... Badass!! Would do it again...

was my first time going. Didn't quite understand how the game was played but a young lady was there to answer any and all questions. Awesome!! It had quite a bit going on. Non stop action loved look forward to going again.

    Lass Erator Rocked

by Havanero on 1/16/15UIC Pavilion - Chicago

As a novice fan I was highly entertained by the two derby matches that I saw Saturday night. The first one was a great cliffhanger with Hell's Belles eking out a one point victory over the Manic Attackers. The match went back and forth and wasn't decided until the last jam. I love Jams. The second match was totally one sided as the Fury annihilated the Double Crossers' in what seemed to me a display of superior skills and execution. I'm just a novice fan but when those blockers for the Fury put a hip out it stopped people! Very cool!

Toughest, fastest, womans sport out there.

by KnockmeSenseless on 12/22/14UIC Pavilion - Chicago

Flat Roller Derby is one of the most coordinated athletic fastest, roughest womans sport there is. More so than Hockey or mixed martial arts. F=MA. Woman can play the sport because they are smaller than men, can take more pain, and have better tempers. Falling on concrete with few pads, blows out ice hockey. The speeds are almost as fast as hockey. The strategy is more like chess. In general men can't play the sport. They are too big, would fight too much and cannot take the pain of a concrete fall over and over again. The UIC Pavilions sound system sucks. I think they would be better off bringing in their own portable amps and sound system. It would not cost much. It should be on TV.

    Windy City Rollers

    by Everyman123 on 12/22/14UIC Pavilion - Chicago

I grew up watching roller derby on the banked track. It was so much more exciting than what I saw live on the flat track. Interestingly enough, the competition appeared to be genuine in contrast to the exhibitions of yesteryear. Still. I would much prefer to see the action, real or choreographed on the banked track. I would not bother to see it again on the flat track. I enjoyed it somewhat for its novelty, but not enough!

I don't have any complaints, the match was free of injury, which is what I hoped for.

First time watching a game, wish I looked up the rules ahead of time. My family and I enjoyed ourselves. Enjoyed the announcer and the player's nicknames. I liked that there was general seating.

    Entertaining & Educational

    by MGJ1304 on 1/21/14UIC Pavilion - Chicago

I was a roller derby fan as a teenager, and was interested to see how the game had evolved. While the setting for the match is very different, the same basic principals are still in effect, and the skaters are just as passionate as when I was originally attracted to the sport. In conclusion, the game was very entertaining, the skaters professional, and, approachable! The one major difference from my previous experiences is that the organizers really draw the spectators into the game. The track side seats are well worth the few extra dollars.
