About

Wilson in Concert

Being a hard rock band from Detroit means living up to the standards set by all the local heroes that came before, a proud lineage that runs from Iggy Pop and Bob Seger to Jack White and Andrew W.K. But Wilson rise to that challenge with wild blasts of fury that do those forefathers proud, all while connecting the city's tradition of party-starting rock thunder to the 1990s nu-metal mayhem of Korn and Faith No More. And they do it all with a taboo-busting sense of humor that reveals their core DNA was "that of a bunch of lovable, silly dudes who love to make music," in the words of singer Chad Nicefield.

Wilson got its start in 2010 when guitarist Jason Spencer was a student at Michigan State University. The lineup began to coalesce with Nicefield's arrival later that year. Together with guitarist Kyle Landry, bassist James Lascu, and drummer Matt Puhy, Spencer and Nicefield delved deep into a hard-hitting sound built out of the members' mutual love of hard rock and hip-hop. Wilson's first two albums – ‘Full Blast F*ckery' (2013) and ‘Right to Rise' (2015) – earned the band attention from scene bibles like ‘Metal Injection' and ‘Metal Hammer' magazines. They worked hard to further the albums' impact with support slots for Jason Newsted, Theory of a Deadman, Gwar, and Halestorm, plus festival dates at WIIL Fest with Rob Zombie and the infamous ShipRocked cruise event.

For their third album, ‘Tasty Nasty' – released by RED Music in 2018 – Wilson teamed with Shinedown and Daughtry producer Scott "The Ninja" Stevens to deliver their most explosive effort yet. Full of force and maximum attitude, "Like a Baller" and "My Hustle" are anthems that seem custom-built to fire up the citizens of Detroit Rock City – or, of course, any other place that likes it loud.

This was my first time seeing Wilson, and they did not disappoint. Their show was high energy from start to finish. I will definitely see them again.
