Indie duo Widowspeak mixes surf rock, girl group pop, and dreamy shoegaze to concoct a sound that feels both classic and contemporary. Lead singer Molly Hamilton’s mumbled, ghostly vocals and otherworldly melodies take songs into the realm of the ethereal in concert, and her reverb-drenched strums perfectly compliment Robert Earl Thomas’ echoing guitar leads. Together they deliver lush, beautifully brooding performances of fan favorites like “Calico”, “Locusts”, and “Thick as Thieves”. Now touring in support of Lord Huron, Widowspeak is sure to entrance ticket buyers with their surreal and haunting take on typically upbeat styles like pop rock and surf music.
Tacoma, WA native Molly Hamilton formed Widowspeak in 2010 when she relocated to Brooklyn, NY and began practicing with lead guitarist Robert Earl Thomas. After signing to Captured Tracks in 2011 the group released the singles “Harsh Realm” and “Gun Shy”, the former of which was featured on an episode of American Horror Story. They ended the year with their self-titled debut, which was produced by Woods’ Jarvis Taveniere and received adulation from critics. Following extensive touring and promotion, the band headed to Washington in 2013 to record their second album Almanac. A few months later Fuse TV named Widowspeak one of 30 must-see bands at that year’s SXSW festival. In late 2013 the group also released the EP The Swamps, which lived up to its name by putting a slightly murkier spin on their West Coast sound. The group continues to tour while working on material for their third album.
