About

White Christmas On Tour

This Christmas classic is as much a cultural institution as Coca Cola or Thanksgiving dinner, and its music feels like it’s been around nearly as long.

White Christmas originated as a 1954 musical film from Paramount Pictures, directed by Michael Curtiz (Casablanca, Mildred Pierce). The narrative came from David Ives and Paul Blake, while famed Tin Pan Alley composer Irving Berlin wrote the music and lyrics. A star-studded event of the highest order, White Christmas starred Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen. In the film story, singers Bob Wallace and Phil Davis meet up with Betty and Judy Haynes to perform a Christmas show in rural Vermont. When they find out that their old commander from the war, General Waverly, is having trouble keeping his inn afloat, they try to help out by putting on a blockbuster musical show.

White Christmas came to the stage in 2000, where it premiered at The Muny in St. Louis as Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. It then played in San Francisco in 2004, going on to tour the U.S. and Canada. The show toured the U.K. during Christmases from 2006 to 2011, after which it saw a limited engagement on Broadway, running 53 performances and 12 previews in 2008 and 2009. In the subsequent few years, it toured the U.S. again, garnering acclaim, including two Tony Award nominations in 2009 for Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations. That same year, White Christmas was nominated for six Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Director of a Musical, Choreography, Orchestrations, Set Design, Costume Design, and Sound Design.

Whether you’re an old fan or new to these tunes, you can’t do much better than catching White Christmas during the holiday season.

    Audio??

by TeaTime on 12/25/23E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - Akron

I'm seriously trying to understand how a venue such as EJ Thomas could ever have such non existent audio quality. I was not far back in the grand tier and literally missed much of the dialog because the audio and mics seemed non-existent. The dancers were delightful and did lovely. The actors for the most part were entertaining and did a great job. The gentleman in the role of Bob could not stay on key and made it difficult ti listen through the entire production. The others had lovely vocals, dancing and the story was enjoyable seasonal fun.

    Good show for local effort

by Vicki on 12/25/23E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - Akron

This performance was more of a local talent show that did not resemble the movie made famous with Bing Crosby. We enjoyed the young dancers and tap dance recital however, at $50 a ticket I expected something a little more professional. I think it should have been advertised as a combination of Rubber City performers and local dance students.

    White Christmas

by MJ on 1/5/23Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

I thoroughly enjoyed the show. The performance was top notch. The four leads Bob, Phil, Betty, Judy all had beautiful voices. The choreography was unbelievable and although some of the songs and dancing did not mimic the movie exactly it took nothing away from the performance. The costumes and staging also enhanced a wonderful performance. I have probably seen the movie hundreds of times no exaggeration and I was thrilled by the performance and so added to my holiday season. Thank you

    Not worth your time

by HaroldT on 1/4/23Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

Poor role assignments, story not the same as the original, new songs that don't fit, and more

    Great!

by Diane on 12/19/22Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

Wonderful production! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautiful theater with great sound but not a lot of leg room. Could see well even from the top of the balcony. White Christmas is a great feel-good musical for the whole family.

    Play was awesome

by Chrissy on 1/10/22Toby's Dinner Theatre Columbia - Columbia

It was mine and my husband's first time to Toby's. The play was awesome the service/wait staff were awesome. My only complaint is that the food was not that good, most of the hot foods were cold, the meats were dry, and overall food was bland.
