Wesla Whitfield: The Best
by GilSaul on 1/26/16Society Cabaret at the Hotel Rex - San FranciscoI first heard cabaret singer Wesla Whitfield in the late 1980s. She was very good then; today, it would be hard to think of anyone in America who better understands and delivers this repertoire. Wesla's dramatic (and comic) timing is unerring, her selection of songs is true, and she never wastes a single word of lyric, ringing (or wringing) out all the meaning, like a great poet. She has a superb accompanist and arranger in Mike Greensill and a standout bass player in John Wiitala. She is one of the best reasons to come to the Bay Area.
