About

WAVVES IN CONCERT:

Indie rockers Wavves make the best of their So Cal origins, blending hardcore punk fury with sunny surf melodies. The band sets itself apart from the rest of the indie scene with charmingly lo-fi pop tunes and sweet, passionate melodies belted out by frontman Nathan Williams. They’re a force of nature on stage -- the band tears into live staples like “So Bored”, “No Fun”, and “Afraid of Heights” to create gleefully chaotic jams, complete with heart-pounding tempos, overdriven guitars, and pummeling rhythms. Packed with all the giddy pop and punk attitude ticket buyers could want, Wavves’ one-of-a-kind shows are not to be missed whenever the band goes on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

San Diego surf rock savant Nathan Williams (vocals/guitar) began Wavves as a lo-fi recording project, releasing his self-titled debut album directly to cassette in 2008. He smartly parlayed his preexisting presence as a hip hop blogger to generate buzz for the project, eventually drawing the critical attention of Pitchfork. On the way to his 2009 sophomore album Wavvves, he enlisted the help of drummer Ryan Ulsh to form a dedicated touring unit. After a falling out with Ulsh, Williams tapped drummer Billy Hayes and bassist Stephen Pope, formerly of the late Jay Reatard’s band. The trio produced the unexpectedly polished pop punk record King of the Beach, which Pitchfork named one of the best albums of 2010. The ‘90s alternative influenced Afraid of Heights followed in 2013, after which the frontman began touring with the solidified lineup of drummer Brian Hill and lead guitarist Alex Gates in addition to holdover bassist Pope. In 2015 Williams thrilled fans with the announcement of two new Wavves albums as well as a fall tour that will bring the group's punk enthusiasm and pop revelry to adoring fans across the country.

    Amazing Band, Terrible Venue

by The Come Back Kids on 10/20/21The Masquerade - Hell - Atlanta

I was kicked out for stage diving after the third song. BS. Wavves was great, they even heard my request for said third song, so it was kinda worth it lol. Best stage dive ever too, lasted a good 10-15 seconds.

    Rad show

    by rmick726 on 2/21/16Electric Factory - Philadelphia

Missed Cherry Glazer but Wavves and Best Coast both had good sets. Plenty of floor space for people to watch the show quietly or dance a little, without getting too out of hand.

    Great show!

    by arfarf2 on 2/20/16Electric Factory - Philadelphia

Ok, so I went - not too familiar with the acts, knew a couple of songs... Opening act Pussy Glazer, or whatever, not too exciting, although lots of screaming and cursing. Easily forgettable. Wavves dominate the show. Great energetic set. Won me over as a fan. I felt like I was seeing a young Social Distortion with that touch of Blink-182 in the mix. Lead guitar player is an awesome pleasant surprise, reminiscent of Bush noise/guitar leads. Best Coast is great. Less energy than Wavves. Play all the hits and more. Their songs are great, they were the most pro of the three bands, and held their own. Guitar player is very frenetic and watchable. I left a little early, but was able to see the major hits thanks to the mid-peak set list. Lots of mosh, lots of crowd surf, Garfield crowd surfed! No lasagna...

    Wavves

by Gelika on 12/1/15Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Wavves is honestly one of my most favorite bands. I have only seen them live once (October of 2015 in Boston), but it was an amazing experience. They're great performers and know how to put on a show. Plus Nathan is really cute :-)
