About

I Love a Piano will make you want to sing, dance, laugh, snuggle a little closer and shout with joy! This delightful musical follows the journey of a piano as it moves in and out of American lives from the turn of the century to the present. Irving Berlin's classic songs include "Blue Skies," "There's No Business Like Show Business," "Puttin' on the Ritz," "How Deep is the Ocean," and, of course, "I Love a Piano." Alternately heartbreaking and hilarious, I Love a Piano is a fitting tribute to the man Jerome Kern famously said had 'no place in American music – he is American music.'

    Excellent Show

by AudreyG6NN on 6/17/15Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

I Love a Piano is full of wonderful dancing and singing. Irving Berlin's music is presented as a revue of the life of a piano from 1910 to the 1960's through war and good times. A person of any age will know some of Irving Berlin's most famous tunes ( White Christmas, God Bless America) and will no doubt recognize many others they didn't know they knew. Berlin's music is poignant and stirring. The intimate theater was a wonderful way to share the night with someone I love.

    My Mom cried for joy!!!

by Anonymous on 6/12/15Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

I Love a Piano. This play (musical) was wonderful. I bought tickets for my Mom for Mother's Day and we just went last Sunday. My Mom and I have never been to Walnut Street Theatre. She absolutely loved the Theatre and the play. She said it reminded her of times when she was a child and they would sing all of these songs in the car. She had tears of joy in her eyes and that was priceless to me. The only thing that keeps me from 5 stars is where we sat in the theatre. I was not familiar with Studio 3 and I didn't realize we wouldn't be in the main theatre. It was a little cramped for my liking but at least we could see everything. It was an intimate setting but I would like to try the main theatre next time. I would definitely recommend I Love a Piano!!

Great performers doing a so-so show

by Chuckie10 on 6/9/15Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

I'm in the age group that can remember my parents listening to the music of Irving Berlin.......which is absolutely wonderful and what America was about when he wrote it. The four performers and the piano player did an outstanding job and were very talented. We just felt that the whole production felt far more "dated" than we expected it to be

This was a charming show that was thoroughly entertaining. There were numerous songs I had never heard of, but so many that were very familiar. The four stars did a great job, especially since the stage is so small and they have little extra room to work with for the choreography. It was very clever how they changed costumes and assumed the different decades with their stories. The costumes were terrific and I feel the whole show was a great value. I've already recommended it to two friends.

Worth a Trip to Philly Just for This

by Srastephanie on 5/26/15Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

Walnut Street Theatre is a gem -- incredible history, intimate setting (Stage 3 is up an old elevator and through velvet curtains, seating mere steps from the stage) and gracious hosts. I brought my 8-year old daughter to I Love a Piano on a warm Saturday evening, and we were both blown away --phenomenal acting, singing, dancing -- truly stunning, and mind boggling that we could sit that close to the stage amidst a caliber of actor rarely seen live. Bravo to the cast, pianist, directors and stage crew; the show was exceptional.

    I Love A Piano

by happytrailshockey on 5/25/15Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

Most enjoyable 90 minutes in a long concert-going career. Am considering going again before it closes, and am recommending to others who I know would find it most enjoyable as did my wife and I. They did every Irving Berlin song that we knew and several we had not previously heard.

    I love a Piano - The best

What a delightful little gem. An excellent event to have in a little theater, though almost good enough to be in a larger venue
