This was a great experience from beginning to end! Love the venue, the folks that work there, the sound and most definitely the music. Wailin' Jenny's never sounded better!

We have been following this band for many years and they did not disappoint in person. Great instrumentals, perfect harmonies and soulful lyrics made it a terrific night. The acoustics of the uptown theater were a joy, and the restored walls and ceiling to their original art deco style was a great touch.

Two days at the Birchmere, in Alexandria, the 2nd sold out! They write a lot of their material which tends towards the spiritual and details thoughtful vignettes of life, the sort of things Canadians are very good at. The harmonies were liquid and full, and are the Jennies strong point. Being able to sing together and play instruments is nothing short of amazing. I especially enjoyed the inclusion of a short piece directing small children to get dressed. A departure for the Jennies, but a welcome bit of comic relief. Sometimes you don't think, you just do.
The show was fine. It was my first show at the Birchmere. It would've been nice to know beforehand that they also served as a restaurant with restaurant style seating. That made seats slightly uncomfortable. The show was lovely though. Lots of "mom" chat, not for me but made for some laughs. Will opt for a more conventional concert space for the next show.
Simply put, The Wailin' Jennys are amazing, out of this world. Perfect harmonies, perfect phrasing, great stage presence. Their genuine and witty commentary makes the audience feel right at home. One of the best live performances I've ever experienced! I can't wait to see them again next year!
For anyone thinking about seeing them, don't hesitate. They are great live!
