Having seen this orchestra a few years ago at Disney Hall under the direction of Zubin Mehta, I was anxious to hear them under Lorin Maazel. What an amazing interpretation of both Shubert and Mahler...so thoughtful and deep in emotion. Only after decades of experience could this material be handled by the masterful maestro Maazel. The Mahler 4th ending on a note of bliss that I wished had never ended.
This was an amazing concert. I was amazed at the difference in the sound quality, control, dynamics of this group. There is a distinct difference that I didn't expect to my amateur ear to hear. Incredible!
The concert was beautiful -- I was not surprised that it was completely sold out. Anyone who appreciates classical music knows what a privilege it truly is to see an orchestra such as the Vienna Philharmonic in a live performance. We toured Europe attending different shows in different cities and were never able to see this orchestra --so to have them come to our city was truly wonderful !! Thank you La Jolla Music Society !!
Excellent, Bravo!!! This was an amazing event. We are so very fortunate to have had the Vienna Philharmonic here in San Diego. We sat up in the balcony , I can't imagine a bad seat in the house. Also the lecture on Schumman and Brahms prior was an excellent history lesson. Thank you
