    A little disappointing

by SwiftOhio on 2/20/17Akron Civic Theatre - Akron

A mixed review for this performance. By far our favorite piece was the second one (sorry don't have the program with me and I don't remember the name). The first piece was pretty good, but a bit too long. The third piece was rather dark (in mood and lighting) and would have been interesting, but again was too long. The fourth was a fun little piece. We didn't stick around for the fifth piece; it was getting very late and we were very tired.

    A Night Of Beauty

by Anonymous on 2/22/16Akron Civic Theatre - Akron

Verb Ballet performed a beautiful tribute to the creative genius of Heinz Poll. Each dance pushed the envelope a little farther culminating in the rapid fire climax of Bolero. The Civic was a stunning backdrop to the powerful exhibition of dance and music.

    Verb Ballets Raised Cain(Park)

by 22diva on 7/29/14Cain Park - Cleveland Heights

This was a repertory evening with a variety of pieces. I loved Tarantella, which was bright and happy. "Similar", a piece by choreographer Anthony krutzcamp was excellent as well. Although it was raining during most of the show, the dancers showed grace and confidence and didn't seem to stick to the floor! This amphitheater is covered , but open on the sides It was very humid, which can be disastrous for dancers I look forward to Verb Ballet's next show!

    Verb's Carnival of Animals disappointed

by Elosue on 8/6/13Cain Park - Cleveland Heights

We were all so excited for this performance...a ballet directed towards the perspective of a young child. Our grand daughter has taken ballet and is very talented and interested. However, this performance showed poor direction, not being cohesive with a clear story line. The animals needed to show more drama towards the bullied one and then much more emphasis on the redeeming factor ... Embrassing diversity in a big way to get the point across. Why was the bird, the main character, not called a crow? He certainly resembled a crow and not at all a cuckoo, which is a soft tan color or brown. In addition, the costumes were all too dark with the black background of the Cain Park stage. Also the tails were not appropriate in most cases for the animal depicted. At the end the director actually told the audience that he'd just choreographed the dance the day before...and the dancers confirmed they'd just learned it. This is NOT a compliment to all those who paid good money for a well designed and danced performance. It is sloppy work which I do not care to experience again.
