So my one complaint for the show was that when I called Royale to see when the show actually started (doors at 5), I was told that the first band Adestria would be on at 6. When I showed up 10 till they weren't even on the stage anymore and I was disappointed because I had really wanted to see them. Enough of that though. The next band up was Ten After Two. I have their cd, but the music doesn't really stand up to me and their live performance wasn't as good as the cd. I think the singer is taking on too much doing the heavy screaming and melody. On the cd it comes off well, but not live. It doesn't seem like he has enough experience and needs to train his voice better. The lead guitarist though has a lot of talent and I was really surprised by how good he was. The next band up was Chunk! No Captain Chunk! I like them for their name. They're poppy rock-core or however you want to call it. Also, they're all from Paris and you'd never know listening to them live or on the cd just when the lead singer talks and then it's a really thick accent. He also made fun of the band for being French.
The next band up was Close To Home. I was pretty disappointed in them. They seemed like old scene guys who were doing an A Day To Remember rip-off very badly. The lyrics were awful; for one song the chorus was "remember the memories" and it wasn't supposed to be ironic. The only thing I can say is the lead singer can scream they just need to use that talent better.
My favorite band of the night was up next, In Fear and Faith. They were so good I'm not sure I can explain it correctly. Everything works for that band. Every instrument is played well and the singing is amazing. The lead singer has one of the best voices in the hardcore rock scene in my opinion. Their set was great front to back and I can't wait until they come back around again and I hope a new cd is coming soon. A Loss for Words were to co-headliner since they're from Boston along with Vanna. It really seemed like A Loss should have been the definite headliner since they packed the stage with family and friends along with some of the other bands to watch their set. You could tell that their energy was huge and they were really excited to play for the hometown crowd. I had never heard them before, but they did a good job. They didn't really fit the genre of the entire show, they're more like a faster Jimmy Eat World/ Offspring/ Anberlin type band, but they did a good job. During one of their songs all the other bands came out and sang the chorus with them.
Lastly, Vanna was on. Most of the crowd had left. I can't say I blame them. There didn't seem to be much special about them. It didn't seem like a homecoming show for sure.
