I enjoyed the show at the birchmere in the dmv (va). i like the way Van Hunt carried himself. he is a real regular person. a working musician. he said that he was sick and he didn't know that he had to dress up or look fancy. I figure as long as you show up and perform well or do as best as you can, look presentable like wear pants, a shirt, and shoes thats good enough. we know that Van hunt is great. he makes good music. we accept him for who he is. i bought his debut album the first week it came out. Van Hunt is a great musician. he was apart of that neo-soul movement. he worked behind the scenes. his band was great too. also, it was nice to see a young black woman playing the drums. rarely do you see that. Van Hunt is always welcome to perform in the dmv.
I've been waiting to see Van Hunt in concert for years, and was glad I had the opportunity. The intimate venue was great and provided a perfect view for the show. I loved the way Hunt seemlessly transitioned between songs. He performed his classics and several new songs (from the new album, which at the time hadn't been released). He also created new versions of his popular songs breathing new life into them, which was a real treat. Vocally, his pitch and quality were perfect despite having a cold! I would recommend seeing one of his shows to anyone looking to see a true musician in his element.
So 1. the venue, is the best ever. 2. Loved the whole first come first served 3, The sound can be a little tweeked, but over all it was a wonderful experience.
The Van Hunt show started off with a bang and ended with a fizzle. Looks like he is headed in a different direction -- rock on Van. Too much of the new stuff (more rock and I don't mean soft rock) and too little of the good old stuff. I'll miss his ability to mix soul, sex and music -- I won't be buying the new stuff.
I loved loved loved the show! Van Hunt was so amazing and he wasn't even feeling well! My first time seeing him and definitely won't be the last!
Van Hunt is amazing! the show was awesome. there was a little rock and a lot of heart and soul. He drove to Alexandria and wound up getting sick, but sounded great anyway. I particularly enjoyed Down Here in Hell. You could hear the influences of Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, and James Brown mixed in with Jimi Hendrix and Sly & the Family Stone. Give some to the drummer - o' girl was hittin on the drums. For those who chose not to come out you blew it. Van Hunt is an excellent talent. Loved the show.
Van Hunt & all of the band members were on their game! We were extremely impressed & glad to come out for the show. No disappointment here except, instead of no standing, Birchmere needs a "it's too funky to not get up & dance" rule.
VanHunt was sick and still played and sung VERY Well! This was my first time seeing him live and it was worth the long wait! Van Hunt has a female drummer Ruthie Price and she is Awesome on those drums, had he not said her name ( due to my seat) I would've thought it was a man on the drums! She can hang in there with the male drummers. His soulful voice is sexy and his skill on the guitar is MINDBLOWING! I call him a Multiple Crossbreed of, Lenny Kravitz, Bootsy Collins, Jimmy Hendrix, James Brown, and Eric Benet!!! He had an opening act, they were cute; the piano player had a very soulful voice, but I wished he had no opening act, so that I could of have had more of VanHunt. I was very sad that he did not mingle with the fans!! I wanted to meet him, so I could tell him how much I appreciate his craft, skill, and ability!
It was a good show because of the artist, and even the opening act was pretty decent. Van Hunt takes r&b onto another path with a retro modern fit to it. He'll hit you with a little funk and a little rock. He rearranged his most popular hits though! Still a great show on a tuesday night sharing good music with others that appreciate his approach.
