Washington Huskies Football at Husky Stadium

Seattle has a long tradition of excellent college football, and the University of Washington Huskies continue the tradition to this day. The Huskies have won 17 conference championships and seven Rose Bowls, and they claim two national championships, in 1960 and 1991. Washington plays at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium, which opened in 1920 and seats 70,083. They are coached by Kalen DeBoer, who led the Huskies to an 11-2 record and an Alamo Bowl win in his first season.

Washington Huskies Football History

The University of Washington Huskies first took to the field in 1889 and have had consistent success since. Gil Dobie led the Huskies during an unprecedented period of success in the early 1900s, leaving with a 58-0-3 record in 1916 as part of a 64-game unbeaten streak and a 40-game winning streak. Washington joined the Pacific Coast Conference in 1916, and helped to found what was then known as the Athletic Association of Western Universities in 1959, which over the years grew into the modern Pac-12 Conference. In 1991, coach Don James, along with quarterback Billie Joe Hobert, offensive tackle Lincoln Kennedy and defensive tackle Steve Emtman, led the Huskies to an undefeated season, culminating in a Rose Bowl victory over the Michigan Wolverines, and a share of the national title with Miami. Many legendary players have suited up for the Huskies, including Warren Moon, who led Washington to a Rose Bowl victory in 1978, and fellow Pro Football Hall of Famers Hugh McElhenny and Arnie Weinmeister.

While the Huskies have many rivals in the Pac-12 Conference, none are more important than the Washington State Cougars, who they face annually in the Apple Cup. With roots dating back to 1900, the Apple Cup is the traditional final regular-season game for both teams, and in recent years had conference championship implications. In 2018, No. 16 Washington upset No. 8 Washington State 28-15 for their sixth straight Apple Cup victory, and their ninth in 10 years.

Got engaged to a former UW Rower!

    by B1986 on 11/26/16Husky Stadium - Seattle

I decided to propose to my girlfriend of three years in front of the stadium. She is a former U.W. Rower, a walk on, class of 2010! I got down on one knee and told her that the first time I brought her here I called her my girlfirend and that this being the second time I want to call you my wife. To no suprise she said yes and blanketed me beforeI could stand back up. I had coordinated with a friend to take pictures, so all the pictures are 100% reaction. It was perfect! The seats were great, and ended up being much more than expected. I am very glad I was able to plan this, and it went off without a hitch! By the way we won U.W. beat Arizona State!

    UW Football Gameday

    by Ballard70 on 11/25/16Husky Stadium - Seattle

Gameday in November was a wonderful experience in the renovated Husky Stadium. Had not been there for some time. The event moves along fast, even with the TV timeouts added, because of the band's sound picked up on the stadium sound system, and several fan contests taking place during longer time outs, or between quarters. Wood go again.

THE TRIBUTE TO OUR VETERANS AND 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF PEARL HARBOUR WAS BOTH HUMBLING AND GRATEFUL FOR OUR FREEDOMS AND BLESSINGS. THE GAME WAS A BATTLE BETWEEN TWO TITANS AND A SURPRISING VICTORY FOR USC. AFTER 7 YEARS OF LOSES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS.. USC IS FINALLY BACK & IS A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH, FIGHT ON!

Great atmosphere. Great view from even high up.

by JCSEA on 10/25/16Husky Stadium - Seattle

We took the grandparents and 2 kids under 12 to the game. Everyone had a fun time. Even though we were in the 300's we could see the game clearly and the large scoreboards meant we could see all the other events easily on the field (& replays). The environment was clean and great for families.
