USF Softball, great games, bad venue

by TampaJoe on 2/15/17USF Baseball and Softball Complex - TAMPA

The USF - Wilson DiMarini Tournament was full of exciting games, and great softball! It feature 3 games between ranked teams, in springtime weather in February! The parking was free, and very close to the stadium. Getting in and out was easy, and traffic lines we very quick. They brought in quality teams: 3 Florida, 6 Michigan, 24 South Florida, Illinois State, Delaware and St. John's; and provided great match ups! The venue however, was not so great. The seating was General Admission, and no one was required to take a seat. This lead to people standing over hand rails and leaning over my family for most of the games. It would cost a couple grand to install sun sails under the protective nets (and is a no-brainer), to provide shade for patrons sitting in the blazing FL sun for 10 hours a day (for 4 days). Maybe more people would have sat down, if there was some shade. Like most venues being run by old school mangers, they don't allow outside food and drink. If the tickets were for single games, I can see it.. These tickets are for the whole day! A family of 4 would pay over $64 just to get everyone a water for each game (which you need on hot sunny days in FL to stay hydrated)! However, they could not keep their over-priced food an drink in supply in the concession stand. They ran out of pretzels and ICE (of all things) on a hot and sunny Sunday. While on the concession stand, of which there is only one, I had to count out my own change, because the person working the register couldn't seem to get the math to come out right. The bottom line is to make this event great, they need to assign seating, and create a more fan friendly environment. People by a ticket for the whole day, let them bring in some snacks and water. Spend the money, add a couple of 50x50 sun shades to each side of the grandstand.

    Great Venue

by FAN1199 on 2/14/17USF Baseball and Softball Complex - TAMPA

Lots of space, clean and very modern. Only complaint: They never bothered to put lineups on the screen unless USF was playing.

    Tourney management needs help

by SBfan16 on 2/15/16USF Baseball and Softball Complex - TAMPA

No complaints about participating softball teams, very competitive. Management needs to review accommodations for fans attending the 3 day event. For example, water bottles were not allowed to be brought into stadium, but this fan experienced standing in the concession line for 35 minutes in order to purchase water. Concession stand was completely understaffed for the first two days.

    USF event staff totally incompetent.

by Riseball on 2/15/16USF Baseball and Softball Complex - TAMPA

Although the softball was great, the staff at USF was totally clueless and incompetent. At the first game Friday morning the concession stand had no straws, no ice and only 1 person working. At times the line had at least 50 people waiting up to 20 minutes for a $4 bottle of water. Which of course was not an option since they searched everyone attending to confiscate any outside food or drink. I get that you want folks to buy stuff onsite, but you should staff appropriately. The next day was even worse with Michigan and Florida playing to a standing room only crowd. Apparently the fact that this was a rematch of the National championship game was lost on the dolts at USF. This time the concession stand line was reached from its location in left field to well behind home plate. Well over 100 people in line to what was again a woefully understaffed facility. It was painfully obvious that those in charge of the USF facility had not idea that they had the hottest softball ticket in nation. If you are going to run a facility you should at least have some idea what is going on. Since there was standing room only on Saturday, the brilliant USF staff decided to "reserve" all of the seats behind home plate for their season ticket holders. This caused another standing room only situation for the Florida versus VT game while a hundred or so seats for the USF faithful were empty for 3 straight games They even made people in wheelchairs leave handicapped seating so they could remain empty for USF season ticket holders although no other handicapped seating was available. USF finally played Florida at 4:00PM but the USF fans had great seats for a 5 inning stomping by Florida. I love going to see great softball but doing so at USF was an terrible experience.

The facility was very nice. We got there early and were the first ones in line, so when the gates opened we got awesome seats right behind home plate. During the game we found out that they throw out balls for each strike out USF gets, the one thing I didn't like was the girl threw it in the same place every time so my niece never even got one while others had multiple ones. That is one thing they need to get a better grip on. It was so nice being able to see a double header tho for the price of one game. I will for sure make sure when I come back that its on a double header game again. The food is awesome and for sure make sure you get the collector soda cup for 7 bucks its so worth it when you get free refills. After the second game was over all the girls on the team sat to a table with sharpies and all the kids got to go down the line and get autographs which was very nice. My niece who is 9 couldn't keep her eyes off the game and was talking about that the whole way back to Spring Hill. And on Monday she got her first hit and it was over the outfielders head and she got a triple. I do really think taking her to see this helped her out a lot.
